Daily social mapping project happening every November↵
The official home of #30DayMapChallenge, a daily mapping challenge open to everyone. Every November, participants create one map a day for 30 days — each based on a different theme — and share them on social media using the hashtag #30DayMapChallenge.
2026 themes↵
The 2026 challenge runs from 1 to 30 November. Here are the 30 daily themes. Themes from past challenges are kept in the Archive section.
The 2026 challenge is supported by Mapbox. As always, you're free to use any tools and data you like.

| 12-11-2026 | Power | Power as in nuclear power? Or physical power or influence? Power grid on a map? Read this the way you want, like every other prompt. |

How it works↵
You can prepare maps in advance, but the spirit of the challenge is to publish one on each themed day. Post a picture of your map to X, Instagram, LinkedIn or any platform you prefer with the hashtag — no sign-up needed. There are no restrictions on the tools, data or technologies you use, and fewer than 30 maps is also fine. Please follow the Code of Conduct below.
For data sources, software and tutorials, see the Mapping resources page.
Explore the maps↵
Every November mappers around the world share tens of thousands of maps. Browse the growing list of community map collections to get inspired — and add your own so others can find it too.
Across the web↵
Since 2019, the community has shared more than 50,000 maps under the hashtag. As the challenge has spread across more and more platforms, pinning down exact totals has become nearly impossible — deeper community-maintained stats live in Haifeng Niu's #30DayMapChallenge bot and David Friggens' 2019–2020 metadata gallery.
Follow the #30DayMapChallenge hashtag wherever you already hang out:
There's also an official 30DayMapChallenge LinkedIn page for announcements and occasional highlights — but the hashtag is where the challenge happens, on whichever platform you prefer.

Code of Conduct↵
Whether you are a GIS expert or have never made a map before, everyone is welcome to participate.
But keep in mind a few things:
- All maps you publish have to be your original work. Don't steal content from others.
- Give credit to the original data source whenever possible.
- The challenge is all about creativity, openness and the joy of beautiful maps and cartography. It is not a competition.
- Be smart with AI tools. They can genuinely help your mapmaking, but if you generate all your maps straight from a prompt, where's the fun? Day 10 (Prompting only) is the exception: that's the one day to see how far prompting alone gets you. Whatever you use, be open about how you made it.
- Don't be an asshole. Don't harass or steal from others.
Inspiration for the challenge came from Inktober and Tidy Tuesday.
