PM₂.₅, PM₁₀, NO₂, O₃, SO₂, and CO — shown with current concentrations and WHO 2021 guideline context. AQI is calculated separately using the U.S. EPA AirNow standard.

5-Day Hourly Forecast

CAMS atmospheric models give hour-by-hour AQI predictions 5 days ahead. Plan outdoor runs, school trips, or morning commutes around the air quality.

CAMS Data & EPA AQI

Data comes from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) via Open-Meteo. AQI follows the U.S. EPA AirNow standard; pollutant cards are compared with WHO 2021 air quality guidelines.

Understanding the Air Quality Index

The AQI is a standardized index developed by the U.S. EPA to communicate how clean or polluted the air is. It runs from 0 to 500 and is divided into six color-coded categories.

Good0–50Air quality is satisfactory. It's a great day to be active outdoors.
Moderate51–100Acceptable. Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged outdoor exertion.
Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups101–150Sensitive groups should reduce prolonged outdoor exertion. Take more breaks and watch for symptoms.
Unhealthy151–200Everyone should reduce prolonged outdoor exertion. Sensitive groups should avoid outdoor activity.
Very Unhealthy201–300Health alert: everyone should avoid prolonged outdoor exertion. Move activities indoors.
Hazardous301+Health warning: avoid all outdoor physical activity. Stay indoors and keep activity levels light.

Why Check the AQI Daily?

Air pollution causes respiratory issues, aggravates asthma and allergies, and increases the risk of cardiovascular problems. Fine particles (PM2.5) can penetrate deep into the lungs and bloodstream. The World Health Organization estimates that air pollution causes millions of premature deaths worldwide each year. Checking the AQI before outdoor activities helps you make informed decisions — especially if you're in a sensitive group.

How is the AQI Calculated?

The AQI is derived from concentrations of major pollutants: ground-level ozone (O₃), fine particles (PM2.5 and PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), sulfur dioxide (SO₂), and carbon monoxide (CO). Each pollutant gets its own AQI value, and the highest determines the overall index. Forecast pollutant concentrations come from CAMS via Open-Meteo.
