Common questions

Is my file uploaded when I use the check on this page?
No. The check on this page reads the size, format and pixel dimensions of your file inside your browser tab. The file is never sent anywhere. The tools the check links to are different: image and PDF operations run on our processors and do upload the file only when you start them, and results are deleted on a retention schedule.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
The check on this page is free and needs no account. Basic image and PDF work also runs without login. An account is only needed for the submission package that exports a ZIP with a manifest and preflight reports, and for private job history.
Why does the preset use 200 KB?
200 KB is a common ceiling on government and school upload forms, so we ship it as the default. It means 200,000 bytes here. Many portals state the limit in KiB, where 200 KiB is 204,800 bytes — if your form says that, raise the limit to 204800 before you compress.
What if my file is still too big after compressing?
Check the pixel dimensions first: an image that is far larger than it needs to be wastes bytes on detail the form will discard anyway, so resizing is often more effective than lowering quality again. If it is a scanned PDF, the pages are pictures, so compress the images inside it rather than the PDF wrapper.
Which formats can I check?
Any file: we report its size and sniff its format from the file contents, not the file name, so a renamed file is still identified correctly. Pixel dimensions are shown for images the browser can decode — JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF and TIFF. PDFs are checked for size and format; page count, page size and fonts come from the PDF tools.
Can it read the text in my scan, or edit or sign a PDF?
No. Optical character recognition, PDF text editing and digital signing are not offered here, and we will not claim them. What this site does is prepare files for a size, format or dimension limit before you submit them.
