Moovit helps more than 1.7 billion users navigate public transportation across 3,500+ cities. Behind that experience is a data platform processing enormous volumes of mobility, product, and operational data, and keeping it fast and reliable as it scales is its own engineering challenge. Moovit’s data team recently shared how they evolved their Redshift-centered data platform into a modern multi-engine architecture, while continuing to support teams that depend on fresh data every day. The approach: measure before you migrate. The team built automated query attribution to understand which workloads were generating load and why, removed workloads that were no longer needed, moved selected high-impact data pipelines to Amazon EMR, right-sized the Redshift cluster, and split remaining workloads across provisioned and serverless compute based on actual usage patterns. The result: a 50% reduction in provisioned Redshift capacity, improved runtime consistency for selected pipelines, and a 33% reduction in overall data pipeline costs, all rigorously validated before production cutover. This is a strong example of the engineering discipline running quietly behind the app millions of people use to get around every day. Rio Innovation Week is one of the largest tech events in Latin America, bringing together more than 200K tech enthusiasts at Rio de Janeiro’s Olympic Boulevard. Moovit was there, connecting with a highly relevant audience and taking part in conversations shaping the future of mobility. Marcelo Tavela, Moovit Field MarCom for Brazil, hosted a panel discussion on the future of mobility management with Maína Celidonio, from @prefeituradorio, the Rio City Mayor’s Office, and Diego Araújo, from @4-smart-cloud. Both panelists shared valuable insights on how technology can help connect the public and private sectors and transform the mobility landscape. Tavela also joined Pedro Palhares, Moovit Partnership Manager in Brazil, on PodMais, the podcast hosted by @maismobi, to discuss how Moovit became so popular in Brazil, as well as other topics shaping the mobility sector. A great opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences, and strengthen connections across the mobility and technology ecosystem. #RioInnovationWeek #Mobility #Technology #Moovit

When the World Cup final kicked off, the world didn’t just watch- it slowed down.⚽ Major global events do more than fill stadiums. They can reshape how entire countries move, creating sudden slowdowns, demand surges, and new mobility patterns. Understanding these shifts can help cities and transit operators anticipate demand and build more responsive transportation systems. At Moovit, mobility data helps us understand not only where people are moving, but how the moments that capture the world can transform movement itself.

⚽The FIFA World Cup is a big deal in #Brazil - and Moovit can put that excitement into numbers. Our data team analyzed Moovit app usage in São Paulo, Brazil's largest city, during the Brazil vs. Japan match. The results were striking: bus, train, and metro activity was 61% above the daily average at 1:00 PM, one hour before kickoff, as fans rushed to reach their destinations. Once the match started, transit activity dropped sharply, reaching 36% below the average at 4:00 PM—almost exactly when Brazil scored the winning goal. Check out the chart below to see how mobility patterns shifted throughout the day. #WorldCup #Mobility #DataInsights #PublicTransport
