AB - The purpose of this study is to analyze the dictionary users’ characteristics based on the aspect of using dictionary information in the Urimalsaem. The Urimalsaem is an innovative Korean dictionary in which users can directly add words or edit its information. It has three advantages : ① It continues to compile words used in daily life. ② It is built not only by the lexicographers but also by users. ③ Everyone can access the dictionary and utilize its information freely. And user characteristics were derived from the analysis of Urimalsaem’s usage patterns as follows : ① Major users are assumed to be in their 20s. ② Users prefer to add a new word rather than edit existing information in the Urimalsaem. ③ Users look up a variety of dictionary information and test the search function thoroughly. ④ Individual users used dictionary information as research material, and institutional users used it as basic data for the language processing technologies. ⑤ Users tended to comfile newly-coined words and everyday words in the Urimalsaem.
