    Deutsch: Das Wappen wurde erstmals am 11. Dezember 1936 und zuletzt am 9. Juli 1973 durch das Hessische Innenministerium verliehen. Das Wappen bringt die frühere Zugehörigkeit zum Hochstift Fulda (bis 1815) und die spätere Zugehörigkeit zum Kurfürstentum bzw. Land Hessen zum Ausdruck.
    English: The arms were granted on December 11, 1936 and confirmed on July 9, 1973. They show the cross of the diocese of Fulda, where the main part belonged to till 1815 and the lion of Hesse,; it symbolises that the district was part of Hesse from 1816-1866 and since 1945.
