MEMBER OF STATE COMMITTEE DIES AT HOOSICK FALLS
Joseph C. Riley Was Former Deputy Rensselaer County Clerk
Joseph C. Riley, Democratic State Committeeman for many years, died yesterday at his home, 35 Wilder Avenue, Hoosick Falls, after an illness of several months.
Mr. Riley was a former deputy Rensselaer County Clerk under the late Jesse Vars. Since the death of Michael T. Smith, veteran Democrat from Cohoes, his member membership on the state committee was the oldest in point of service.
He was born in Hoosick Falls, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Francis Riley, and was graduated from St. Mary's Academy in that community. He also attended Holy Cross College. Following his college studies, he was associated with his father Frank Riley and Sons coal business, which had been started by his father.
Mr. Riley was an outstanding drum major and led Dorings and Kirkpatrick's Bands in parades in Troy. He also performed during parades in Hoosick Falls. He was a member of the Hoosick Falls Lodge of Elks, and the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
Mr. Riley was the husband of the late Gertrude Gehrean and is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Philip Bogardus of Hoosick Falls and Mrs. Robert C. Witherell of Troy; a son, Joseph F. Riley of Albany and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the residence and at 9:30 a.m. from the Church of the Immaculate Conception, where a solemn requiem high mass will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hoosick Falls.
