This is the “now page" for John SJ Anderson. It was last updated 7 September 2026 (Labor Day).
where is john?
Still happily living in Salem, Oregon. Visiting Austin, TX and San Carlos, CA pretty frequently for work.
what is john up to these days?
I’m about 10.5 months into working at Natera — I was originally hired as a Staff SWE, ended up becoming an Eng manager after about a month, and soon (after I onboard a replacement and get them up to speed), I’m gonna go back to the Staff role I was originally hired for. I like the team I’ve been leading, but I’m also pretty deeply tired of being The Guy In Charge, so I’m looking forward to going back to being a worker bee.
Still doing weeknotes over at genehack.blog, along with some other bloggery every now and then.
My main side project right now is trying to get my collection of MP3s organized and properly meta-data-ed, and figuring out how to get stuff I’ve purchased on Bandcamp sync’d into the local media server, and on and on. I think I should probably sit down and write a blog post about that, to organize my thinking if nothing else.
who made john think this was a good idea?
Jmac’s now page was inspirational in getting this one off the ground.
can i see the previous versions of this page?
