…8183) This would cause failures during testing distribution packages on Cygwin. The code is copied from meson-python, as advised in mesonbuild/meson-python#51 and amended in mesonbuild/meson-python#137. Note the changed organization in many of the links. The same pattern is also present in other NumPy test files where extension modules are build as part of the test suite.
I was told the current docs are a bit unclear, so trying to make them more clear. Also, we always were OK with `dtype=` being ignored, there seems little point in denying that when even `pandas` does it. Not sure I quite like the phrasing around "least desirable", but didn't have a better idea (since yes, one should look at all options).
