Describe the bug
If I have code that looks like this:

void main() {
    print('print');
}

with a breakpoint set on line 2. Now if I start a debugging session. the output does show print, but the breakpoint is not hit.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. open vscode, and ensure dart extension version 3.48 is installed.
  2. Create a new file with any name and .dart at the end.
  3. Type the code above with a breakpoint on the print statement.
  4. Start a debugging session.
  5. Notice the print statement runs but the breakpoint is not hit.

Expected behavior
The breakpoint should be hit.

    I don't seem to be able to repro this:

    Could you confirm how you're starting the debug session, and also capture a log:

    • Run the Dart: Capture Debugging Logs command
    • Run the app
    • Click Cancel on the logging notification to stop logging and open the log
    • Remove anything sensitive from the log
    • Attach the log here (or in a gist)

    Thanks, I can repro on Windows when using the new SDK debug adapters. I'll do some digging to verify the cause and if it is Windows specific, I'll do a patch release to disable the SDK debug adapter preview on Windows.

    In the meantime, you can force this off by adding the following to your VS Code User Settings:

    Yep, it looks like this is caused by drive letter normalisation. Essentially the issue described in dart-lang/sdk#32222. In the local DAPs we work around this by normalising all paths to uppercase, but we're not doing that in the new SDK DAPs.

    As an immediate fix, I'm going to ship an update that disables SDK DAPs for Windows and I've filed #4149 to ensure this is fixed in the DAPs so Windows users can be migrated to the new DAPs in future.

    v3.48.2 has been published which disabled the SDK DAPs for Windows users. If you upgrade to this (it may take up to 30 min to show in VS Code) you do not need to change the setting noted above, it will be opted-out automatically (at least until the issue is resolved).

    Thanks! I can confirm the fix and the fix in 3.48.2 both work perfectly fine.

    Great, thanks for confirming. I'll re-enable the new DAPs for Windows only once #4149 is fixed (and the SDK being used contains the fix if the fix ends up being in there).
