Cannot open links in DevTools sidebar panels #5472
In one of the panels in the sidebar, click on one of the links in the footer (e.g. "Read docs")
Expected behavior:
VS Code asks if you want to open the external website, like it does when you click on a link from a DevTools panel when it is not embedded in the sidebar (see screenshot)
Actual behavior:
Nothing happens, can't open the link
Note: I initially discovered this because I was trying to add a footer to the Property Editor that would let users file a bug / open the documentation.
@muhammadkamel that sounds like a different issue - could you file a new issue about that, including a screenshot showing exactly which button (and whether it's just that button, or the surrounding UI also doesn't work)? Thanks!
@elliette I can repro your issue, there's an error like this:
This could be related to flutter/devtools#6105 - I think all hyperlinks in DevTools that appear when embedded need to call a special function to work for VS Code. I'll try to confirm it's this.
The DevTools part was fine, the issue was that it the code to handle the message wasn't set up for the sidebar. I will push a patch that includes this shortly.
This fix was included in 3.108.2 (stable) and 3.109.20250404 (pre-release - not a typo, I used tomorrows date because I'd already pushed a pre-release earlier today with todays date).

Sometimes, the DevTools Sidebar (Toggle Widget button) is not clickable and does not respond.

Add support for proxying postMessage and handling "launchUrl" in side…
