Create a command for toggling dart.showTodos value programatically #6118

Closed

Description

@FMorschel

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
When trying out new lints, I often want to see just that lint on the problems tab so I know how many cases there would be for me to fix, and having to open the settings every time to toggle that value to false and back to the default again is annoying.

Describe the solution you'd like
Create a command for toggling dart.showTodos value programatically. So we don't have to keep opening the settings json to edit the value.

Describe alternatives you've considered
Always manually opening the settings json to edit the value for this setting.

    I'm a bit hesitant to add commands for things like this because there are a lot of settings and there may be many that would be useful to have toggles for for some small number of people.

    For TODOs, I think the ideal fix would be for VS Code to treat TODOs as first-class diagnostics as they were in Visual Studio. There's an open issue at microsoft/vscode#162455

    There are also existing settings that allow toggling setting such as https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=mhagnumdw.easy-toggle-settings (note: I've never used this and can't vouch for it, but you can always review and build it from source) that might work well for this.

    I know and agree. I've only opened this issue because these are TODOs. If it were any other setting, I wouldn't mind, but since VS Code doesn't seem eager to work on that issue, I'm requesting here to see if we could do anything from our side better. If that "VS Code should handle this" phrase were to be completely followed, we would not have dart.showTodos setting anyway, so I'm requesting, since we have it, that we could have a helper command to work with it.
