on Mar 7, 2026 Hello,
I would like to investigate this issue. I plan to check the current fail2ban package in pkgsrc, verify which Python version it depends on, and try to reproduce the problem with the missing
asynchatmodule in Python 3.12.If I can confirm the cause, I will attempt to propose a fix or a possible patch.
Thanks!
@foxycode Hello,
I investigated this issue and noticed that pkgsrc currently packages fail2ban 1.0.2, while the latest upstream release is 1.1.0.
According to the upstream release notes, version 1.1.0 specifically adds support for Python 3.12 and 3.13, which should address the missing
asynchatissue reported here.It seems that updating the fail2ban package to 1.1.0 may resolve this issue. I would like to try preparing a package update for pkgsrc if that approach is acceptable.
Thanks!
@Shruthii7 Perfect, I can test when you have package ready.

When installing
fail2ban,python-312is installed as dependency, but there is no moreasynchatmodule in python 3.12.Possible solutions:
python-310should work.fail2banwhich usesasyncioinsteadOther fail2ban problems:
I already spent half a day investigating where the problem lies. Unfortunately, here my skills ends. I'm unable to fix it myself.
