AGENTS.md is ignored at the repository root: an untracked Codex instruction file keeps reappearing #987

Closed

Description

@David-Noble-at-work

Schedule: #916, lane 20 · Epic: Ops:Process

The owner added /AGENTS.md to .gitignore in the devlore-cli main clone on 2026-09-29, and ruled it committed "NOW. IMMEDIATELY", through the full process.

AGENTS.md is an instruction file for OpenAI's Codex agent: a copy of this repository's CLAUDE.md with Claude replaced by Codex. Something recreates it at the repository root (last on 2026-09-27 05:53), and the owner deletes it routinely. Claude Code never reads it; nothing in this repository uses it.

Resolution

.gitignore gains /AGENTS.md as its first line, so the file no longer shows as untracked.

Out of scope, recorded: the main clone also holds an uncommitted formatting-only change to README.md (2026-09-29 07:54, table padding and three paragraphs rewrapped past 120 columns, consistent with an IDE's Markdown reformat on save; no agent session wrote it). It blocks the main clone's git pull against develop's #984 README change, and is the owner's to keep or discard.

Acceptance

  • .gitignore on develop carries /AGENTS.md
  • git status in a clone with a root AGENTS.md shows nothing for it
