(The relationship to Open Source/Culture/Music (and contribution it's it's a existing project).)
Flynn is a non-commercial open-source research project exploring persistent embodied computation around a biologically anchored spiking neural core derived from the FlyWire FAFB v783 adult Drosophila melanogaster connectome.
The project studies continuous neural dynamics, persistent state, homeostasis, memory mechanisms, sensory-to-motion coupling and embodiment through a synthetic body and environment.
Its architecture connects:
world → sensory transduction → continuous LIF neural core → descending readout → Pinocchio body dynamics → Lethe synthetic morphology → world
The purpose is academic and technical: to observe what actually emerges from a continuously running neural system, distinguish observation from interpretation, document both successful and negative results, and make the implementation and experimental process reproducible.
Flynn is developed openly. The public repository contains source code, architecture, English research documentation, experimental protocols, reproducibility material, historical evidence, negative results and explicit scientific limitations.
The project is released under the Common Public Attribution License 1.0 (CPAL-1.0).
Our open-source commitment is simple: if infrastructure makes the research possible, the resulting technical knowledge — including deployment procedures, failures, limitations and reproducibility lessons — will be returned to the community.

- Who I am:
(Brief intro about who you are)
(what role in what project/team, responsible for what).
My name is Antonio Oliveira. I am the creator and primary maintainer of Flynn.
I am responsible for the project's research direction, architecture, implementation, experimental design, validation, documentation, deployment and preservation of its technical history.
Flynn is currently an independent, early-stage research project with one active maintainer. I deliberately keep the experimental record public, including failures and negative results, so that claims about the system remain inspectable and reproducible rather than depending on private observations.
- Verification:
(If it's a existing project, please provide a link to a page on project site (or othe possibly method) to verify your identity and proof that you or the contact person can represent the (sub-)project/team.)

The project repository is publicly maintained under this account. Its source code, research history, documentation, evidence, roadmap and rehosting work are all publicly inspectable.

- Resource you need:
(Please describe and list down "How many, which kind (VM, web hosting, git hosting, mirror service, etc), usage (will it be what kind of function/role) and spec.")
(Please describe both the Minimal and Desired spec.)
(For slave mirror service, please also give us the source url, mirror frequecy, and other neccessary info.)
We are requesting one persistent Linux VPS for the Flynn research runtime.
The VPS will run Flynn's long-lived neural/body/world loop. Persistent infrastructure is scientifically relevant to the project because neural time, body state, world state, homeostasis and the causal experimental record must survive between observations.
This is not intended for performance benchmarking or continuous CPU saturation. It is a persistent functional research workload.
Minimal specification
- 1 VPS
- Ubuntu 24.04 LTS preferred
- 2 vCPU
- 4 GB RAM
- 40 GB SSD storage
- SSH/root access
- Stable network connectivity
- Public IPv4 and/or IPv6
- Continuous long-running operation
- x86_64 preferred; ARM64 is also acceptable if available
Desired specification
- 1 VPS
- Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
- 4 vCPU
- 8 GB RAM
- 80 GB SSD storage
- SSH/root access
- Stable public IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity
- Continuous long-running operation
No GPU is required.
Expected usage
The server would run:
- the persistent LIF neural runtime;
- sensory input and descending-neuron readout;
- synthetic body dynamics;
- persistent world and homeostatic state;
- append-only experimental records;
- controlled restart and persistence experiments;
- research monitoring and validation interfaces.
Network usage is expected to be modest. Flynn is not a CDN, public mirror, VPN, proxy, cryptocurrency workload, mail server or commercial hosting service.
The additional RAM in the desired specification provides useful safety margin for continuous experiments and instrumentation, but the project can begin with the minimal specification.
Flynn previously operated as a persistent research runtime on Ubuntu 24.04 ARM64. That environment became unavailable when its former cloud infrastructure was suspended.
The source code, documentation and experimental evidence were preserved, but the resident runtime state was not. We therefore explicitly distinguish reconstruction from uninterrupted continuity:
SOURCE_CODE_BACKUP != RESIDENT_STATE_BACKUP
REHOST != UNINTERRUPTED_CONTINUATION
Any deployment provided through OSSPlanet would be documented as a new research episode rather than presented as continuation of the previous resident.
This distinction is part of the project's research integrity.
The preserved neural dataset contains:
- 139,255 neurons
- 3,732,460 connection pairs
- 50,666,648 synapses
- 1,305 descending neurons
- 473 descending-neuron types
The repository also preserves explicit limits on what has and has not been experimentally demonstrated. Flynn does not claim consciousness, sentience, biological equivalence or associative learning without evidence.
The project is entirely non-commercial. There is no paid access, advertising, resale of infrastructure or commercial hosting activity.

- Ability to promote OSSPlanet
As this is a free service for Open Source/Culture/Music without asking almost nothing in return,
We will be encouraged if you can list as on your project site, or mention us on your news/blog/article.
And if it's ok for you, please let us know!
Yes.
If OSSPlanet sponsors Flynn's infrastructure, we will publicly acknowledge OSSPlanet as an infrastructure supporter in the Flynn repository, including the project README and research rehosting documentation.
We will also credit OSSPlanet in relevant public reports or documentation produced from the hosted research episode.
The acknowledgement will remain part of the project's public infrastructure and provenance record.
