The project is currently being developed as an independent open-source educational technology project in Tanzania.

Project Info:
(Brief intro)
(Project fullname and mission)
(The relationship to Open Source/Culture/Music (and contribution it's it's a existing project).)

Academic Item Analysis (IAS) is an open-source educational assessment analysis system being developed to help teachers and lecturers in Tanzania better understand the results of quizzes, tests, examinations, continuous assessments and other forms of academic assessment.

The project's main purpose is to turn assessment results into useful information that educators can use to identify areas where students are performing well, areas where students are struggling, and areas of the curriculum or instruction that may require additional attention.

The system is intended to support both primary and secondary education contexts, with the possibility of supporting other educational institutions and assessment workflows as the project develops.

The project is designed around the idea that assessment should provide information for improving learning, rather than only producing a final mark.

Academic Item Analysis will provide a way for educators to examine individual assessment items/questions and overall assessment results. Depending on the implemented assessment workflow, the system can help educators investigate patterns such as:

student performance on individual questions;
questions that are frequently answered incorrectly;
areas where students demonstrate strong understanding;
differences in performance across groups or assessments;
assessment-item performance and difficulty;
areas that may require additional teaching or revision;
historical assessment results that can help educators monitor changes over time.

The project is being developed with the Tanzanian educational context in mind. It aims to provide educators with practical assessment information that can be used in their everyday teaching activities, including quizzes, tests, examinations and other classroom assessments.

The project is open-source and its source code is publicly available on GitHub.

Backend:
https://github.com/carmel26/backend-ias

Frontend:
https://github.com/carmel26/frontend-ias

The project contributes to Open Source by making the implementation available for inspection, improvement, reuse and adaptation. The intention is to develop an educational tool that can be useful to schools, educators, researchers and other developers without requiring proprietary infrastructure.

The project is non-commercial at its current stage. Its primary purpose is educational improvement, experimentation and development of an openly available assessment-analysis platform.

Who I am:
(Brief intro about who you are)
(what role in what project/team, responsible for what).

My name is Carmel Nkeshimana. I am the creator and primary developer of Academic Item Analysis (IAS).

I am responsible for the project's software architecture, backend development, frontend development, database integration, assessment-analysis functionality, testing, documentation and deployment.

The project is currently being developed independently in Tanzania, with the goal of addressing practical assessment-analysis needs faced by educators.

I am particularly interested in using open-source software to build educational infrastructure that can be adapted to the local context rather than relying entirely on proprietary educational platforms.

Academic Item Analysis is currently an early-stage project. The development process is focused on building a reliable foundation for educators to enter, process and analyze assessment data and progressively expanding the system based on practical educational requirements.

Verification:
(If it's a existing project, please provide a link to a page on project site (or othe possibly method) to verify your identity and proof that you or the contact person can represent the (sub-)project/team.)

The project repositories are publicly available and are maintained under this GitHub account.

The backend repository provides the server-side implementation of Academic Item Analysis, while the frontend repository contains the web application interface.

The public repositories provide a way to verify the project's development activity, source code and relationship between the applicant and the project.

Resource you need:
(Please describe and list down "How many, which kind (VM, web hosting, git hosting, mirror service, etc), usage (will it be what kind of function/role) and spec.")
(Please describe both the Minimal and Desired spec.)
(For slave mirror service, please also give us the source url, mirror frequecy, and other neccessary info.)

We are requesting one persistent Linux VPS or container for hosting the Academic Item Analysis application.

The infrastructure will be used to host the application's backend API, database and supporting services. The frontend can either be served from the same VPS or from the same infrastructure through a reverse proxy, depending on the hosting environment provided.

The requested infrastructure will primarily support development, testing, demonstration and eventual use by educators who need to analyze academic assessment results.

The application architecture consists of:

Angular/AngularJS-based web frontend;
Rust backend API;
SurrealDB database;
HTTP/HTTPS reverse proxy;
persistent application and database storage.

The VPS would allow the project to run its own backend and database processes rather than relying on shared web hosting that does not permit server-side applications.

Minimal specification

1 VPS
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS preferred
2 vCPU
6 GB RAM
4 GB SSD storage
SSH access
Stable network connectivity
Public IPv4 and/or IPv6
Ability to run long-running backend and database processes
x86_64 preferred; ARM64 is acceptable if supported

Desired specification

1 VPS/container
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
4 vCPU
8 GB RAM
80 GB SSD storage
SSH access
Stable public IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity
Persistent storage
Ability to run long-running services
x86_64 preferred

No GPU is required.

Expected usage

The server would run:

the Academic Item Analysis backend API;
the SurrealDB database;
the web frontend;
reverse proxy and HTTPS services;
assessment and item-analysis processing;
application logs and monitoring;
database backups and recovery testing;
development and demonstration instances;
future educational assessment-analysis workloads.

The expected network usage is initially modest. The application is not intended to operate as a CDN, public file mirror, VPN, proxy, cryptocurrency workload, mail server or general-purpose hosting service.

The project is intended to grow gradually as educators begin using and testing the system. The requested VPS therefore provides an environment in which the project can run its complete application stack and can be expanded if actual usage increases.

Any additional info.

Academic Item Analysis (IAS) is being developed in Tanzania with the aim of addressing practical assessment-analysis needs in the local educational environment.

Teachers and lecturers regularly conduct quizzes, tests, examinations, continuous assessments and other academic activities. Raw marks can show whether a student passed or failed, but they do not always provide sufficient information about which particular questions, topics or learning areas require further attention.

IAS is intended to help make assessment results more useful by providing analysis at the assessment-item level.

For example, after an assessment, an educator should be able to use the system to investigate which questions were answered correctly or incorrectly and identify patterns that can inform subsequent teaching, revision and assessment design.

The project is not intended to replace teachers' professional judgment. Rather, it is intended to provide educators with structured information that can support their own decisions about teaching and assessment.

The project is also being designed with openness and reproducibility in mind. The source code is publicly available, and the project can be inspected and developed by other contributors.

Current repositories:

Backend:
https://github.com/carmel26/backend-ias

Frontend:
https://github.com/carmel26/frontend-ias

The project is currently in development, so some functionality may continue to change as the application is tested and refined.

The requested hosting would allow the project to move beyond local development and provide a stable environment for:

application integration testing;
database testing;
demonstration to educators;
controlled pilot deployments;
collecting technical feedback;
testing application reliability;
developing backup and recovery procedures;
documenting a reproducible deployment process.

The project is entirely non-commercial at its current stage. There is no intention to use the requested infrastructure for advertising, cryptocurrency mining, resale of hosting resources, VPN/proxy services or unrelated commercial workloads.

OSSPlanet infrastructure would be used specifically to support the development and public availability of this open-source educational project.

Ability to promote OSSPlanet
As this is a free service for Open Source/Culture/Music without asking almost nothing in return,
We will be encouraged if you can list as on your project site, or mention us on your news/blog/article.
And if it's ok for you, please let us know!

Yes.

If OSSPlanet provides infrastructure for Academic Item Analysis, we will publicly acknowledge OSSPlanet as an infrastructure supporter of the project.

The acknowledgement can be included in the project README and relevant project documentation, with a link to OSSPlanet where appropriate.

We will also acknowledge OSSPlanet in relevant public project announcements, technical documentation or articles concerning the hosted deployment.

The acknowledgement will clearly identify OSSPlanet as an infrastructure supporter and will remain part of the project's public project documentation.
