[Bug]: Not able to send code to third party terminal with development version from R: Workspace. #1836

Description

@Fred-Wu

Area

R terminal or code execution

Bug description

It looks like the development version making sending code from workspace, like View() only targets specific terminals and interactive window. It is no longer able to send to any other terminals. When clicking on view button, a warning message pops up saying that "R Workspace: This R session has no attached terminal. Attach its terminal or open it in an Interactive window. "

This leaves workspace not able to send code to my vscode-R-Console, while sending from editor still works. Could this be restored to the previous behavior?

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch R Console for VS Code
  2. Create a data frame
  3. Click on view button

Expected behavior

Sending code to R Console

Environment

Development version of vscode-R

Relevant R package versions

    @Fred-Wu Could you try #1837?

    Thanks for supporting this. I have tested, and now it works.

    However, once click on view button, this is sent to the terminal/console

    View(get("test", envir = .GlobalEnv, inherits = FALSE), title = "test")

    is this the intended design?

    I think so.
    #1805 changed the Workspace action from View(name) to this form so it can safely address arbitrary object names in .GlobalEnv and preserve the display title.
    #1837 only restores delivery to explicitly bound third-party terminals.
    For a regular name like test, it is functionally equivalent to View(test).
