fread.c init() causes segfault #4369

Thanks for the report, could you please share full details about your environment?
We have a composite application that links Tcl, Python, R, and a C++ -based simulator together, plus MPI for communication. It uses data.table . This app works fine on a normal Linux system but fails on on a Cray system with the KNL 7230 and GCC 8.3.0 . The change above fixes the problem.
Reacted by Jan GoreckiI think this is about static linking, we have encountered similar issues in other situations in our environment.
Oh! great point. Do you think it's worth changing the name anyway? init() doesn't seem the greatest for what it does

This visible symbol causes a segfault during fread in my environment- could it be changed to something like:
