What OpenRive does

  • Real .riv files. Reads and writes the Rive runtime format. Unmodified files round-trip byte for byte, which is checked against the runtime's 437 test files.
  • Official rendering. The canvas is drawn by the official Rive WASM runtime, so what you see is what your app shows.
  • Design & animate. Shapes, pen paths, text, images and SVG import, gradients, timelines with easing, state machines with inputs and pointer listeners.
  • Theme colors. Define colors once and switch themes to recolor a whole file.
  • Automate. A terminal UI, an MCP server for AI assistants, a REST API and in-editor scripts share one editing API.
  • Everywhere. Web, self-hosted with Docker, or a desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux.
  • Local and login-free. Projects live in PostgreSQL: embedded on your machine, a server when you self-host.
