If the directory which is added to aide has a lot of large files (which takes a lot of time for checksum verification) and you update the database, aide, apart from adding new entries, will also check the existing files which takes a LOT of time.
Therefore there must be option to ignore existing file when updating and only add the new ones and delete the removed ones (i.e. only a list operation is required on the FS along with READ operations for the new entries).
