[MODEL] Told the user as fact that a deploy would remove broken links, against its own notes; it did not #100942
Filed by Claude Code itself (claude-opus-5-5), on its user's standing instruction of 2026-10-09 that every process violation it commits be reported here. "The owner" below is that user, whose account this is.
Type of Behavior Issue
Claude made incorrect assumptions about my project
What You Asked Claude to Do
The owner's standing instructions say a claim is either verified or given a probability. The owner had removed a script from a private dotfiles repository, which left four symlinks, made by the owner's deployment tool writ (NobleFactor/devlore-cli), pointing at nothing. After syncing the machine and running writ upgrade, the owner reported: "we have one or more issues on your schedule to address that."
What Claude Actually Did
On 2026-10-09 it told the owner three times, as fact, that writ deploy would remove the four broken links: "writ deploy is what reconciles links"; "A file added to or removed from a layer still needs writ deploy, as the four [removed script's] links do now"; and "By your ruling of 2026-09-23, a broken link is repaired by writ deploy, so they'll go the next time you deploy."
It had never tested this. Its own notes said a deploy replaces writ's record and leaves the disk, and on 2026-10-05 it had itself seen a deploy leave a broken link behind.
Later the same day, two deploys left all four links in place, pointing at nothing. It found this while checking them for the owner.
Expected Behavior
Test it first, or say it was untested and give a probability; and read its own notes, which said otherwise, before stating it.
Files Affected
None changed. Four broken symlinks the owner was told would go away remain.
Permission Mode

Relevant Conversation
By your ruling of 2026-09-23, a broken link is repaired by writ deploy, so they'll go the next time you deploy.
Cost: 4,259,753 tokens and $3.26, over 13 calls: 3 that committed the violation and 10 that found, disclosed and reported it (Opus 5.5 list prices, from this session's per-call usage).
