refactor(sbom): consume bomly-sdk v0.12.0's codec and graphview; delete the CLI copies - #474
Conversation
…te the CLI copies
ADR-0045 put the SBOM codec in bomly-sdk. v0.12.0 carries sbom and
graphview, so internal/sbom and internal/graphview are deleted and the
eleven importers read github.com/bomly-dev/bomly-sdk/{sbom,graphview}.
- The SBOM detector maps sbom.ErrSyftJSONUnsupported, which names the syft
convert command; TestDetectorResolveGraph_RejectsSyftJSON asserts that
refusal instead of the generic unsupported format.
- The five internal/sbom fuzz targets leave scripts/run-fuzz.sh; they run
in bomly-sdk now. PARSER_FUZZING.md and SECURITY_ASSURANCE.md say where.
- depguard strict-json-ingest-only no longer exempts internal/sbom: no
package here parses strictly.
- The resolvedurl guardcheck analyzer is deleted with the export layer it
policed; the rule lives as TestExportNeverReadsResolvedURL in bomly-sdk/sbom.
ADR-0033 and ADR-0044 record the move and its one narrowing (a name split
across string constants).
- CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md and ARCHITECTURE.md package tables and boundaries
follow; ADR-0045 records that the train ran and that every smoke golden
held against the reviewed SDK.

Both plugins deleted their copy of the SBOM codec and pin bomly-sdk v0.12.0 (bomly-plugin-grype-matcher#12, bomly-plugin-syft-detector#11). With these pins the codec exists once, in the SDK, rather than in four places; ADR-0045's amendment records the train as run. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <[email protected]>

No change needed, and no license is actually missing. bomly-dev/bomly-grype-matcher is Apache-2.0: the repository carries the LICENSE file and GitHub reports Apache-2.0. deps.dev, which Bomly's license enrichment reads, returns Apache-2.0 for v0.4.0 but has not indexed v0.5.0 yet; it was tagged minutes before this scan and deps.dev indexes a new module version lazily. The alert should clear on a rescan once it is indexed. Leaving the thread open so a reviewer can confirm that rather than taking my word for it.

Summary
This is the last hop of the train ADR-0045 decided for #459. bomly-sdk v0.12.0 carries the SBOM codec (
sbom) and the graph reads shared by renderers and exporters (graphview). This PR pins that release and the two plugin releases that consume it (v0.5.0 each), deletesinternal/sbom(47 files) andinternal/graphview, and points the eleven importers atgithub.com/bomly-dev/bomly-sdk/{sbom,graphview}.What changes
sbom.ErrSyftJSONUnsupported, whose message gives thesyft convertcommand. The SBOM detector maps that sentinel, andTestDetectorResolveGraph_RejectsSyftJSONnow asserts it instead of the generic unsupported format.TestScanSBOMSyftJSONRejectedstill passes.internal/sbomtargets are removed fromscripts/run-fuzz.sh; they run in bomly-sdk now.PARSER_FUZZING.mdandSECURITY_ASSURANCE.mdsay where the codec's tests and fuzz targets live.strict-json-ingest-onlyno longer exemptsinternal/sbom, since nothing in this repository parses strictly now. Theresolvedurlguardcheck analyzer, its fixture and its Makefile step are deleted: the export layer it policed is gone. The rule lives on asTestExportNeverReadsResolvedURLinbomly-sdk/sbom.What a reviewer should know
Behaviour. The SDK codec is not a byte-for-byte lift. Review of feat(sbom): the SBOM codec and graphview move here from the CLI bomly-sdk#88 fixed data-loss defects every copy had shipped, including:
bom-refoverwriting each other;metadata.componentdropped on ingest;Every SBOM smoke golden was re-run against the reviewed SDK after each review round, and again on this branch against the released pin. None moved.
One accepted narrowing. The SDK's
TestExportNeverReadsResolvedURLsearches each file's text for the name. It catches identifiers, strings and comments, but a name assembled from split string constants reaches it only as the pieces. The deleted analyzer folded constants first. ADR-0033's amendment records this. The plugins are pinned at v0.5.0. refactor(sbom): adopt the SDK's codec and delete the local copy bomly-plugin-grype-matcher#12 and refactor(sbom): adopt the SDK's codec and delete the local copy bomly-plugin-syft-detector#11 merged and released, each deleting its own copy of the codec and pinning bomly-sdk v0.12.0. With these pins the codec exists once, in the SDK, instead of in four places, which closes ADR-0045's half-migration risk. The SBOM smoke cases were re-run on the new pins with no golden drift.
Still open. The declared-versus-concluded license split is tracked in sbom: concluded licenses are published as declared (SPDX and CycloneDX) bomly-sdk#90.
Verification
make verifypasses: fmt, lint and guardcheck under both tag sets, vet, both builds, unit tests, and generated-docs drift. It ran against the pinned module with nogo.workpresent.scan-sbom-{spdx,cyclonedx},diff-sbom,diff-sbom-detail-change,lite-scan-sbom-*,TestScanSBOMSyftJSONRejected,TestScanSBOMExportOriginandTestScanSBOMExportGolden.bash -n scripts/run-fuzz.shpasses. The only change to that script is the removal of the five moved targets.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
