Query on Inconsistent Session Time Display #194

Description

Hello, I've observed an inconsistency between the session time displayed in the Claude Code extension UI and the time shown by the ccusage command-line tool, and I would like to ask if this is the intended behavior.

Currently, the extension UI indicates the session resets at 6 PM, which is the actual time the session ends. However, the ccusage blocks --live monitor in the terminal shows the session ending at a different time (8 PM in the attached screenshot).

This difference can be a bit confusing as it's not clear which timer to follow. Could you please clarify if this is the expected behavior?

Steps to Observe the Behavior

  1. On macOS with the latest version of VS Code.
  2. Have the Claude Code extension installed.
  3. In the VS Code integrated terminal, run the command ccusage@latest blocks --live.
  4. The time displayed by the extension in the editor's top bar ("resets at 6pm") differs from the "Remaining" time in the ccusage monitor (e.g., shows end time of 8:00:00 PM).

My Expectation

For clarity, I would expect both timers to be synchronized and reflect the actual session end time.

Screenshots

As shown in the screenshot, the top right of the IDE indicates a reset time of 6 PM, while the ccusage session monitor in the terminal shows a session end time of 8 PM.

Environment

  • OS: macOS
  • IDE: Visual Studio Code (Latest Version)
  • Tool: ccusage@latest
  • Extension Name & Version: Claude Code [Please add extension version if known]

Thank you for looking into this.

    I've added a rate-limit status display feature to my GUI.

    Overview:

    • 🔎 Scan the directory ~/.claude/projects
    • 📄 Parse .jsonl files line by line
    • ⚠️ Extract errors containing "Claude AI usage limit reached"

    Sample data during rate limit:

    {
      "parentUuid": "",
      "isSidechain": false,
      "userType": "external",
      "cwd": "",
      "sessionId": "",
      "version": "1.0.34",
      "type": "assistant",
      "uuid": "",
      "timestamp": "2025-06-26T08:13:11.427Z",
      "message": {
        "id": "",
        "model": "<synthetic>",
        "role": "assistant",
        "stop_reason": "stop_sequence",
        "stop_sequence": "",
        "type": "message",
        "usage": {
          "input_tokens": 0,
          "output_tokens": 0,
          "cache_creation_input_tokens": 0,
          "cache_read_input_tokens": 0,
          "server_tool_use": {
            "web_search_requests": 0
          }
        },
        "content": [
          {
            "type": "text",
            "text": "Claude AI usage limit reached|1750932000"
          }
        ]
      },
      "isApiErrorMessage": true
    }

    Thanks!
    I haven't put this in ccusage, I'll try to put it in ccusage.
    I will send you a PR when I can confirm.

    The usage limit “reset time” has been added.
    Since this is different from the session time, it is only displayed when it is before the current time in the live display.

    The first noted difference between session time and limit time may be a problem specific to the Claude Pro plan.
    I confirmed this when I was on that plan.
    I upgraded to the Claude Max plan and since then the session and limit times have always been the same.
