It should trigger CefDownloadHandler via detailed/dialog/DownloadDialog.java.

That's what I was expecting too and so, I put a breakpoint in the onBeforeDownload method in DownloadDialog.java method but it doesn't get triggered. Probably because the download is being attempted inside a popup?
Also, as mentioned on the other thread (http://magpcss.org/ceforum/viewtopic.php?t=14770), I downloaded a cefclient "Sample Application" available from http://opensource.spotify.com/cefbuilds/index.html (for the exact version i.e. 3.2924.1572) and ran the same steps as above and it was able to download the XLS file successfully.
If I had to guess, I think there is something wrong going on while trying to download in a popup in JCEF. Happy to dig deeper and create a PR with a fix if I get some suggestions / advice where to look.

We have the same issue too (but using 3.2704).
Might be that CEF internally a new CefBrowser/CefClient are created?I think I saw a comment somewhere that the browser/client in onBeforePopup should be new ones handling the new window?
Closing old issues as WontFix. If the problem still reproduces please create new a new issue referencing the current JCEF version.

I noticed that when you try to download an XLS file from a popup, nothing happens.
Steps to reproduce:
Run the following test (https://bitbucket.org/chromiumembedded/java-cef/src/dfe1828dc07128327aa40e4e7bfca7141c066615/java/tests/detailed/MainFrame.java)
Go toTests >> Show DevTools >> Console
Run the following script (this is a sample xls available online) - a popup gets created but nothing happens:
Note: With other formats, the popup seems to work. For example, run the following script (this is a sample pdf available online) - the pop gets created and renders the pdf successfully
The details of the JCEF I am using is as follows:
JCEF Version = 3.2924.152
CEF Version = 3.2924.1572
Chromium Version = 56.0.2924.76
Any ideas how to fix this?
