Your WP plugin Text Hover has worked well for many years, but in recent years I have discovered that it breaks whenever I insert a ligature. Ligatures are part of the extended Latin characterset and are used in French and other languages, as well as occasionally in English. Common examples are æ and œ. However, typography websites will probably use some obscure ligatures as well.
The simple solution for typewriters and websites has always been to convert these into two separate characters, ae or oe, respectively. However, this is less satisfactory now that there are multilingual features in most webservers. All code should now be using UTF encodings.
This is not just an æsthetic matter (see what I did there?). The problem cannot be resolved by the use of smart fonts. Converting texts to remove ligatures results in inaccurate results on historic documents, search results, etc... The problem cannot be resolved by the use of smart fonts.
I know you're no longer developing this plugin, but if it is a simple solution, it would be great if you could issue an update.
