WalkthroughThe gateway now supports private endpoint verification through a loopback relay. Tailscale creates and manages the relay, endpoint verification routes probes through it, and probe errors receive classified diagnostics. Endpoint contracts carry the relay address. | internal/gateway/endpoint_verify.go | Selects the private relay transport and expands probe diagnostics, but body-read timeout classification misses net.Error timeouts. |
| internal/gateway/endpoint_transport.go | Implements loopback relay resolution, policy-aware dialing, address validation, and sanitized transport-error classification. |

Inline comments:
In `@internal/gateway/endpoint_verify_test.go`:
- Line 425: Update the address-verification test loop to create a named subtest
with t.Run("Should ...") for each address case, preserving the existing
rejection assertions and making each invalid address report independently.
- Around line 434-437: Strengthen the failure assertion in the test around
Verify so it checks both errors. Is(err, ErrEndpointUnverified) and that the
error contains “invalid endpoint descriptor”. Keep the existing sentinel
assertion while requiring the descriptor-specific message to distinguish
validation failures from later probe, policy, TLS, or transport errors.
In `@internal/gateway/endpoint_verify.go`:
- Line 128: Update the handling around readBoundedChallengeBody to pass timeout
and cancellation errors through endpointProbeError, while preserving “challenge
response is invalid” for other body-read and close errors. Add a regression test
using a response body that stalls beyond the verifier timeout.
In `@sdk/typescript/vitest.config.ts`:
- Line 18: Update the Vitest configuration type annotation at the satisfies
clause to use the supported ViteUserConfig export from vitest/config, or replace
the annotation with defineConfig-based type inference; do not reference the
unavailable UserConfig export.

First CodeRabbit review inventory: review 5172795956, all inline threads, and the expanded checks in summary comment 5626041317.
Greptile completed its implementation review and the preview-install follow-up without actionable findings (summary comment 5626086860). The operator revised delivery to one consolidated first-review remediation and current-head green GitHub CI. Subsequent local gates/heavy validation and additional review rounds are not required; no second review was requested. The owned queued local gate was canceled. Earlier completed local evidence remains valid for the inputs it checked, and CI owns delivery validation of c8e7429. |
What & why
Closes #602.
When CompozyOS runs the bundled Tailscale provider on a host without a host-level Tailnet route,
the embedded node can be connected and remotely reachable while core endpoint verification fails.
The provider owns a userspace tsnet network in its subprocess, but the verifier previously used
net.DefaultResolverandnet.Dialerin the host network. All HTTP transport errors becameendpoint probe failed, obscuring this distinction. A successful remote request to/does notprove the exact daemon-owned tier challenge.
The private provider now opens a bounded loopback TCP relay to its own private endpoint using
tsnet.Server.Dial. The core sends TLS through that relay, retaining the advertised URL for SNI,certificate trust/hostname verification, HTTP Host, the challenge path and exact nonce comparison.
It still follows no redirects, bounds the response/deadline, and advertises only after proof.
The relay cannot select arbitrary destinations and closes with its tier before node shutdown.
Public Funnel proof rejects private verification transports and retains authenticated public DNS
and the existing outbound address policy. Existing providers that omit the new optional
verification_addressfield keep the direct verification path. Diagnostics distinguish DNS,connection refusal/unreachable routing, timeout, cancellation, certificate failure, redirect
refusal, HTTP status and nonce mismatch without exposing raw transport errors or challenge secrets.
How you verified it
exact nonce, public-tier rejection and invalid relay addresses. Existing gateway suites cover
tier binding, redirect/body/deadline/outbound policy rejection and advertisement/recovery.

that the reporter's external Tailnet/Linux scenario passed. The affected QA scenario preserves
that limitation. No active gateway, auth key, host Tailscale installation or Tailnet device changed.
