What & why

Closes #654.

Both the workspace menubar submenu and workspace overview lacked multi-selection. Missing registered worktrees had a resolution dialog in the menubar, but no equivalent cleanup action in the overview.

Both lists now expose Select worktrees, bounded Select all eligible, clear selection, counts, keyboard selection and a shared batch confirmation/result dialog. Missing rows also expose Clean up missing record… individually, preserving It’s back.

The confirmation freezes workspace/profile/worktree identities and distinguishes physical checkout removal from metadata-only dismissal. Each item is reconciled before mutation. Targets are chained after the preceding receipt because the daemon has a bounded repository queue; selecting many rows cannot saturate that queue by itself. Results retain successful receipts, report refusals individually, and retry only unsuccessful or unconfirmed targets. No batch atomicity, implicit force, session stop, discovered-checkout adoption or broad Git prune is introduced.

Lifecycle hardening adds exclusive usage and active-session checks to dismissal, idempotent repeated dismissal, a compare-and-swap fence for ready-to-missing catalog reconciliation, refusal of unknown filesystem errors, and truthful restore results after concurrent dismissal. HTTP/UDS remove/dismiss resolve the immutable target, enforce explicit/session profile authority and reject archived ownership. Existing operator calls without a profile selector infer the target record owner at the API boundary, preserving shipped clients. Matching stale Web worktree scope is cleared only after confirmed success; histories remain readable.

Authored and verified by Codex (GPT-6 Astra). Human approval is not claimed.

How you verified it

  • Real Git integration passed: SHELL=/bin/sh CGO_ENABLED=1 go test -race -tags=integration ./internal/worktree ./internal/api/core -run 'TestServiceRemoveAndRecover|TestRemoveWorktreeRefusal|TestWorktreeLifecycleIntegration'.
  • Focused adoption and remove/dismiss handler tests passed, including foreign/archived ownership and lost restore state.
  • Root Turborepo owning selection/lifecycle/scope suites passed. A later expanded run passed 54 tests in three directly affected suites.
  • Seven real-daemon Playwright journeys passed across both list surfaces: mixed batches, missing-only batches with reappeared files, singular dismissal/restore, and the existing force-confirmation flow. Mixed batches exercised keyboard Enter/Space/select-all/Escape, a 390×844 viewport, partial refusal and failed-only retry. One overview test interaction was corrected to use the dialog’s explicit Cancel action while a path tooltip was open; its isolated re-walk passed.
  • Direct disposable-lab HTTP and UDS checks passed: foreign-profile 404, repeated dismissal 204, dirty removal 409, replacement-file preservation and retained dismissed-ID reads. A restart of only the registered disposable lab confirmed catalog exclusion, retained history and the replacement file; teardown reported all lab processes cleaned.
  • Menubar and narrow-viewport screenshots were visually inspected. The E2E suite emits menubar-selection.png, overview-selection.png and per-surface partial-result screenshots in the worktree-cleanup-evidence-shard-* CI artifacts (retained for seven days, including passing runs). The overview journey also emits overview-create-focus.png. See the QA report.
  • File-scoped formatting/lint passed. Before the updated CI-only directive, frontend typecheck/build passed; a broad frontend test run found one incomplete I/O mock (7,321 passed, one failed), then the repaired owning suite passed. This is not represented as a full-suite pass.

Review completion on af0fb9482f63c456881ebc48c3659a4927655512: CodeRabbit approved, with all five pre-merge checks passing; Greptile completed and confirmed the prior compatibility, queue and import findings are fixed; React Doctor passed without new issues. The finding-by-finding disposition includes minor/nitpick, compiler/complexity, keyboard, documentation and CI findings. All seven inline threads are resolved. Final wording correctly distinguishes singular checkout/record counts.

Delivery status: current-head CI is green on af0fb9482f63c456881ebc48c3659a4927655512: all 27 CI jobs passed. The final PR rollup has 33 successful checks/statuses and 17 intentionally skipped release-only jobs; no required check is pending, missing or failed. All review sources and check annotations were refreshed, with no unresolved thread or unaddressed finding. The PR is open and ready for review; it is not merged.

CI retry evidence: the first desktop E2E attempt passed 28 tests and timed out while closing DevTools in unchanged E2E-034, followed by teardown errors. The exact base-head test passed. Re-running only the failed desktop job and its aggregate on the same head passed all 29 desktop tests, including E2E-034, without source changes or weakened assertions. The initial timeout is retained here rather than represented as an initial full pass.

Heavy gates ran exclusively in GitHub CI per the user's explicit instruction; no local make gate pass is claimed.

Current-head rendered evidence: all 18 worktree journeys passed in the 73-test Web shard 4/4. The five screenshot artifacts were visually inspected: 1280×720 menubar selection/results and 390×844 overview selection/results/creation focus. Mixed and missing-only cleanup, replacement-file preservation, singular restore/force behavior, keyboard activation and failed-only retry all passed. Artifacts have seven-day retention.

Impact

  • Web: both reported worktree lists, shared cleanup confirmation/results, individual missing resolution, profile eligibility and matching active scope cleanup.
  • HTTP/UDS: existing singular remove/dismiss operations gain an optional profile selector and ownership checks. Selector-free operator calls preserve legacy owner inference; authenticated agent calls remain session-scoped. OpenAPI and generated Web types are co-shipped. No new batch endpoint, CLI verb, native tool ID, hook or config key.
  • Data/compatibility: no schema migration or history deletion. Metadata dismissal never deletes files at a reappeared/replaced path, branches, sessions, tasks or Loop history. Existing singular operations and deliberate per-target force flow remain available. Catalog visibility does not grant cross-profile mutation authority. A dismissed checkout may still appear separately as a Git-discovered entry; it is never silently adopted or removed.
  • Docs/QA: updated removal/recovery documentation, five affected worktree scenarios, targeted report and the cross-surface audit. Existing official skill operations remain the composition primitives.
  • Limits: worktree UI journeys ran in Chromium on macOS and Linux; packaged desktop E2E ran on Linux in CI. Screenshots use the real-daemon Playwright harness and have seven-day artifact retention. The desktop retry is recorded above. No operator worktrees or host runtime were changed.

  • make gate passes locally; this PR is delivered only after its required CI checks are green — local heavy gates explicitly superseded by the user’s CI-only directive; current-head CI passed (27 jobs)
  • New or changed behavior is covered by tests, or I explained above why not
  • If an agent wrote or co-wrote this, I named it above and verified the result myself — agent identified and agent verification recorded; human verification is not claimed

The PR appears safe to merge. No new actionable issue was found.

What we checked:

  • Dense Markdown keeps its layout: No. Markdown picks a compact recipe, and the reasoning panel asks for compact headings with relaxed spacing.
  • Larger prose stays reachable: No. Task results can expand into a scrolling area, and session messages sit in a scrolling view.
Summary

Workspace lists now support safe bulk cleanup for eligible worktrees and missing records. The flow freezes each target, checks it again before acting, reports each result separately, and keeps existing singular remove and restore behavior available.

  • Adds bounded selection and shared batch cleanup to both workspace list surfaces.
  • Hardens dismissal, discovery reconciliation, restore, and profile ownership checks.
  • Updates API contracts, operator docs, tests, and CI screenshot evidence.

Expose the native div props.

WorktreeSelectionToolbar returns null only when selection.enabled is false. Every non-null render has a single native <div> root, so the mandatory wrapper contract applies. Extend the props, merge className, compose onKeyDown, and spread the remaining props. React 19 then forwards ref through the native props.

Review disposition record for af0fb9482f63c456881ebc48c3659a4927655512:

Finding Disposition and evidence
React Doctor compiler error, original inline 4028925051 Fixed the unsupported try/finally form. The final promise chain retains finalization and React Compiler compatibility; reply.
React Doctor serial-await warning, original inline 4028925059 Fixed with an ordered promise chain. Targets share a repository lock, so unrestricted parallel fan-out would be incorrect; updated reply. No lint suppression.
React Doctor overview complexity, summary 5701798932 Extracted tile rendering and pure navigation/focus projections. Owning rendered-component suites passed; final-head React Doctor reports no new issues.
React Doctor worktree-menu complexity, same summary Extracted row presentation, DOM focus movement and the creation footer. Final-head React Doctor reports no new issues.
Greptile selector-free compatibility f29b16b26 preserves legacy operator owner inference at the API boundary, while explicit/session profile checks and archived-owner refusal remain enforced. Owning API and HTTP/UDS parity suites passed.
Greptile repository-queue capacity f9d1590ca chains target operations instead of saturating the daemon's eight-waiter queue. The owning hook suite passes the 12-target capacity regression.
Greptile domain import aliases f9d1590ca uses the required @/* aliases throughout the new domain modules and affected new imports. File-scoped lint passes.
CodeRabbit singular title f29b16b26 renders the singular noun for one selected worktree. CodeRabbit explicitly confirmed the fix in the thread.
CodeRabbit native toolbar props nitpick, fingerprint b70b2e6483ceaef138725c57 f29b16b26 forwards native div props/ref, merges className and composes onKeyDown while respecting preventDefault.
CodeRabbit creation-footer keyboard activation ad84ff369 makes the footer reachable during selection and handles Enter/Space locally, preventing stale outer-cursor activation. The 36-test overview suite covers both keys; the real-daemon narrow journey covers opening/canceling creation. CodeRabbit explicitly confirmed the fix.
CodeRabbit docstring coverage warning 1e580b2e7 and 217a828f8 document the touched safety, selection and coordination contracts. The final check passes at 81.48%, above the 80% threshold. Changes are comments only; focused format/lint passed.
CodeRabbit Linked Issues pre-merge check, same summary The final check passes. All 27 current-head CI jobs passed and the five screenshots were inspected.

CI formatter findings were fixed with the pinned file-scoped formatter. The transport failure was an incomplete owner-identity fixture; the existing parity suite now distinguishes public name resolution from immutable mutation IDs, without weakening success/refusal expectations.

Completed reviewer evidence on this head:

All seven inline threads are resolved with supported dispositions. Final current-head CI passed (27 jobs) and all five worktree screenshots were visually inspected. Heavy validation runs only in GitHub CI; no merge is requested.

Final self-review in af0fb9482 also corrected singular checkout/record nouns in the consequence text and aligned the existing E2E count assertion. CodeRabbit and Greptile explicitly covered this final adjustment, and React Doctor passed on the same head.

CI completion: attempt 1 had an unchanged E2E-034 DevTools-close timeout (28 desktop tests passed). The same test passed at the base head. Re-running only desktop and its aggregate on the unchanged final head passed all 29 desktop tests, including E2E-034. Final CI is green; no test or desktop source was changed. Rendered evidence: 18/18 worktree journeys passed, with five inspected screenshots across both surfaces and the narrow viewport.
