VMInstance disk entry strange behaviour #2845

Closed

Description

Bug Report: VMInstance disk entry strange behaviour

Describe the bug
In the VMInstance deployment form, adding a disk entry and interacting with its fields causes the entry to be removed as if the delete button was clicked and selector keeps the first option.

Environment

  • Cozystack version: 1.4.2
  • Provider: on-prem

To Reproduce

  1. Log in and navigate to Marketplace → VMInstance → Deploy new vminstance
  2. Scroll down to the disks section and click + add
  3. Open the name select dropdown and choose any disk — this works correctly on first visit
  4. Navigate away: go to Marketplace, then to IaaS
  5. Navigate back to Marketplace → VMInstance → Deploy new vminstance
  6. Scroll down to the disks section and click + add
  7. Open the name select dropdown and choose any disk
  8. Click into the bus text input and start typing
  9. The disk entry disappears — select and input are both removed as if the delete (×) button was clicked

Note: The bug does not occur on the first visit after login. It requires the specific navigation sequence: VMInstance → Marketplace → IaaS → VMInstance. A hard page refresh resets the state and makes the form work again until the navigation sequence is repeated.

Expected behaviour
Typing into the bus field should update the field value. The disk entry should remain visible and intact.

Actual behaviour
Two issues occur on the broken second visit:

  1. Name select reverts: When opening the name select and choosing any option other than the first, the select immediately reverts back to the first option. It is not possible to select any other value.
  2. Disk entry disappears: When clicking into the bus text input and starting to type, the entire disk entry (both the name select and bus input) is removed. The behavior is identical to clicking the delete (×) button on the entry.

Logs

(no relevant logs identified — this is a UI-only issue)

Additional context
The bug is navigation-state dependent. The form works correctly on the first visit after login. It breaks after the following navigation sequence: VMInstance → Marketplace → IaaS → VMInstance. A hard page refresh resets the state and the form works again until the sequence is repeated. This suggests the disk array field component retains stale state or a stale event handler reference across React remounts triggered by that specific navigation path.

This looks like the same VM-disk-form stale-state bug as #3109. The widget it hinges on was rewritten on main (VMDiskWidget → DynamicOptionsWidget), which may already have fixed it. Can this be reproduced on current main? Marking needs-information; resolving this together with #3109.

Hi Jiri Jezek (@jiri-jezek1) this was fixed somewhere in the way to 1.6.1 and I can't reproduce it now. Please upgrade your installation. Sorry for late reply, closing issue, feel free to reopen if needed.
