What this PR does

Closes the per-application gap of the SchedulingClass system. Today a SchedulingClass can only be attached to a Tenant, which propagates it to every workload in the namespace through the namespace label. The lineage webhook already prefers the owner Application's class over the namespace label ("owner Application field takes priority, then fall back to namespace label" in applySchedulingClass), but Application.SchedulingClass() was a TODO that always returned "", so that path was unreachable.

Changes

  1. feat(api): Application.SchedulingClass() reads the top-level schedulingClass key from Spec.Raw. A nil spec, an empty or missing field, and invalid JSON all return "", so the webhook falls back to the namespace class.
  2. feat(apps): every managed application whose pods go through the webhook gets an optional schedulingClass field. Under packages/apps/: bucket, clickhouse, foundationdb, harbor, kafka, kubernetes, kubernetes-nodes, mariadb, mongodb, nats, openbao, opensearch, postgres, qdrant, rabbitmq, redis, tcp-balancer, valkey, vm-disk, vm-instance, vpn. Under packages/extra/: bootbox, etcd, external-dns, ingress, monitoring, seaweedfs. Skipped: tenant (already has the field), vpc and info (no pods), gateway (not an Application), computeplane (it only wraps kubernetes and kubernetes-nodes releases, which carry the field themselves).
  3. fix(apps): the field is capped at 63 characters (maxLength: 63 in the schemas, +kubebuilder:validation:MaxLength=63 in the Go types), because its value becomes a Pod label value while a SchedulingClass name may be up to 253 characters. As defence in depth, applySchedulingClass skips only the label when the resolved name is not a valid label value, keeping schedulerName and the annotation, so a long-named class degrades to annotation-only injection instead of having the apiserver reject every Pod.
  4. test(lineage-webhook): covers the owner-Application path, which the existing tests never exercised (they all pass a nil owner): the app class overriding the namespace class, the fallback when the field is absent, empty or the spec is missing, and the label guard for an over-long name.
  5. feat(tenant): the tenant chart gains allowedSchedulingClasses, empty by default, written to the namespace.cozystack.io/allowed-scheduling-classes namespace annotation. A parent tenant with a class or a non-empty list passes its list down unchanged, so a child tenant cannot widen it.
  6. fix(lineage-webhook): an application class applies only when the namespace allows it and the SchedulingClass exists. Otherwise the pod keeps the tenant class, where it previously got no scheduler at all when the named class did not exist.
  7. feat(api): a ValidatingAdmissionPolicy on apps.cozystack.io (tenants excluded) refuses a spec.schedulingClass that is neither the tenant's own class nor in its allowed list. An update that keeps the class is not refused, so an application whose class was later removed from the list stays editable; the webhook keeps its pods on the tenant class.
  8. docs(apps): the field description names the tenant setting that decides which classes are accepted.

Precedence

The tenant class is the administrator's placement constraint, so an application may replace it only with a class the tenant allows. The administrator lists those classes in the tenant's allowedSchedulingClasses, which is empty by default: per-application placement stays off until it is enabled, and every application runs under the tenant class. Naming the tenant's own class is accepted without an entry, since it is the same as leaving the field empty. Any other value is refused at admission, and the webhook enforces the same rule at pod admission, falling back to the tenant class rather than dropping it.

Use case

The tenant administrator allows the class (allowedSchedulingClasses: [co-region-prod] on the Tenant). Combined with the scheduler.cozystack.io/scheduling-class Pod label added in #2621, a class name can double as a co-affinity group:

apiVersion: cozystack.io/v1alpha1
kind: SchedulingClass
metadata: { name: co-region-prod }
spec:
  podAffinity:
    requiredDuringSchedulingIgnoredDuringExecution:
    - labelSelector:
        matchLabels:
          scheduler.cozystack.io/scheduling-class: co-region-prod
      topologyKey: topology.kubernetes.io/region
---
apiVersion: apps.cozystack.io/v1alpha1
kind: Postgres
metadata: { name: db, namespace: tenant-acme }
spec:
  schedulingClass: co-region-prod
---
apiVersion: apps.cozystack.io/v1alpha1
kind: VMInstance
metadata: { name: app, namespace: tenant-acme }
spec:
  schedulingClass: co-region-prod

The Postgres pods and the virtual machine land in the same region, without pinning a specific one.

Out of scope

Placement per replica role (primary or standby of a clustered database). The role is assigned by the operator after election, while the webhook acts at pod creation, so the future primary is unknown at that point.

Verification

  • go test ./pkg/apis/... ./pkg/registry/... ./pkg/cmd/server/... ./internal/lineagecontrollerwebhook/... passes. The behavioural webhook tests were checked against the reverted code: without the label guard, with SchedulingClass() returning "", and with the previous resolution that skipped injection for an unknown application class, each fails.
  • The admission policy's decisions are evaluated against the chart template with the apiserver's CEL compiler (pkg/registry/apps/application/scheduling_class_policy_test.go). It has not been exercised on a cluster: no existing policy on apps.cozystack.io reads namespaceObject yet, so its resolution under the aggregated cozystack-api is untested. If it did not resolve, the webhook would still keep pods on the tenant class.
  • The tenant chart's inheritance of the list is covered by packages/apps/tenant/tests/namespace_allowed_scheduling_classes_test.yaml, which fails when a child tenant may widen its parent's list.
  • make generate at the root and in every touched package (cozyvalues-gen v1.7.0, the CI pin) leaves no diff.
  • make helm-unit-tests passes; hack/check-rd-presets.sh and hack/check-commit-trailers.sh pass.

Screenshots

No UI change.

Downstream repositories

Two repositories are reached by this diff. Both follow-ups are issues rather than PRs, because each one only applies once this PR is merged: terraform-provider-cozystack needs the field on every application it models and allowedSchedulingClasses on the tenant, and website needs the hand-written SchedulingClass guide to cover the per-application field, the tenant's allowed list that gates it, and the Pod label.

Release note

feat(apps): managed applications (bucket, clickhouse, foundationdb, harbor, kafka, kubernetes, kubernetes-nodes, mariadb, mongodb, nats, openbao, opensearch, postgres, qdrant, rabbitmq, redis, tcp-balancer, valkey, vm-disk, vm-instance, vpn, plus the bootbox, etcd, external-dns, ingress, monitoring and seaweedfs extras) accept a top-level `spec.schedulingClass` field, capped at 63 characters, which applies the named SchedulingClass to that application's pods in place of the tenant-level class. Only the tenant's own class or one listed in the tenant's new `allowedSchedulingClasses` (empty by default) is accepted; any other value is refused. This lets applications in the same tenant be co-located through a SchedulingClass podAffinity on the `scheduler.cozystack.io/scheduling-class` Pod label. An application whose class does not exist now keeps the tenant class instead of losing it.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Application workloads can now use a tenant-approved scheduling class instead of inheriting the tenant’s default. Configure a class for an application, or leave the setting empty to inherit.
    • Tenants can specify which scheduling classes their applications may select. Unapproved selections are rejected, and child tenants follow parent scheduling-class restrictions.
    • Scheduling-class settings are available across supported applications and are documented in their configuration references.

📝 Walkthrough
📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change adds schedulingClass configuration across application APIs, charts, and application schemas. Tenant configuration supplies allowed classes. Admission policy checks application selections, and the lineage webhook resolves a class and applies it to Pods.

Changes

Application Scheduling Class

Layer / File(s) Summary
Application configuration surfaces
api/apps/v1alpha1/*/types.go, packages/apps/*/{README.md,values.yaml,values.schema.json}, packages/extra/*/{README.md,values.yaml,values.schema.json}, packages/system/*-rd/cozyrds/*.yaml
Application API types and chart settings add SchedulingClass or schedulingClass. Schemas define an empty default and a 63-character maximum. System application definitions include the field in schemas and dashboard ordering.
Tenant allowed-class propagation
api/apps/v1alpha1/tenant/*, packages/apps/tenant/*, packages/system/tenant-rd/cozyrds/tenant.yaml
Tenant configuration adds allowedSchedulingClasses. Namespace rendering inherits the parent list when configured and writes the resulting list to namespace annotations and generated values.
Application selection and Pod injection
pkg/apis/apps/v1alpha1/*, packages/system/cozystack-basics/*, pkg/registry/apps/application/*, internal/lineagecontrollerwebhook/*
Application.SchedulingClass() reads the value from raw spec data. The admission policy checks requested classes against the tenant class and allowed list. The webhook resolves the application or tenant class and sets Pod scheduling fields, omitting the label when the class name is not a valid Kubernetes label value. Tests cover policy decisions, class selection, fallback, and label validation.

This conflicts with main and needs a rebase. It's also stacked on #2621, so that one should merge first. The core change is still needed — SchedulingClass() is still a TODO in the tree.

NOT LGTM — the new schedulingClass field is unvalidated, and its value is written verbatim into a Pod label, where a name that is legal for a SchedulingClass object is not necessarily legal as a label value.

Business context: a SchedulingClass could previously only be attached to a Tenant; this implements Application.SchedulingClass() from spec.schedulingClass and exposes the field across the managed applications so placement can be chosen per application.

Blockers

B1: schedulingClass accepts values that cannot be a Pod label, and the webhook writes them as one

File: api/apps/v1alpha1/*/types.go (all 20), packages/apps/*/values.schema.json
Issue: the field ships as SchedulingClass string with only +kubebuilder:default:="" — no +kubebuilder:validation:MaxLength or Pattern — and the generated schema is just {"type": "string", "default": ""}. applySchedulingClass resolves app.SchedulingClass() ahead of the namespace label and then, via the commit stacked from #2621, executes podLabels[schedulerapi.SchedulingClassLabel] = schedulingClass. A SchedulingClass object name is a DNS-1123 subdomain and may be up to 253 characters, while a Kubernetes label value is capped at 63. The charset is not the problem — a DNS-1123 subdomain is always a legal label-value charset and always starts and ends alphanumeric. The length is.

Until now this could not happen: the only source of the class name was the namespace's own scheduler.cozystack.io/scheduling-class label, so the apiserver had already enforced the label-value grammar on it. spec.schedulingClass is the first unconstrained source.

Evidence: internal/lineagecontrollerwebhook/webhook.go resolves the class with "owner Application field takes priority, then fall back to namespace label", and the resolved string goes straight into obj.SetLabels. The same function documents the invariant it exists to uphold: "If the referenced SchedulingClass CR does not exist (e.g. the scheduler package is not installed), the injection is silently skipped so that pods are not left Pending." Writing an out-of-grammar label value breaks that guarantee harder than leaving a Pod Pending — the apiserver rejects the Pod outright.

Impact: an operator creates a SchedulingClass whose name exceeds 63 characters (entirely legal), a user sets schedulingClass to it, and every Pod of that Application is rejected with metadata.labels: Invalid value. The failure surfaces on the ReplicaSet/StatefulSet controller rather than on the Application, so the application simply never starts and the cause is not visible where the user set the field.

Fix: constrain the field at the point it is introduced — +kubebuilder:validation:MaxLength=63 on the SchedulingClass fields, so the generated values.schema.json carries maxLength: 63. Tightening validation on a released API field later is a breaking change, so this is the cheap moment. As defence in depth, applySchedulingClass could keep setting the annotation but skip only the label when the value is not a valid label value, so that a pre-existing long-named class can never break Pod admission.

Non-blocking follow-ups

  1. This branch carries the #2621 commit at the bottom of the stack. Once #2621 lands, a rebase should drop it so the diff here is only the per-application field.
  2. The per-application override is user-facing. The SchedulingClass documentation should cover both it and the new Pod label, since the label is what makes a cross-application podAffinity.labelSelector possible in the first place.

The rest holds up: Application.SchedulingClass() correctly handles a nil spec, empty raw, a missing or empty field, and invalid JSON, and each case is covered by the table test; the existing app-over-tenant precedence is preserved without a controller change; and the generated-code check is green, so the schema and README regeneration is consistent across all 26 charts.

B1 addressed in fix(apps): cap schedulingClass at 63 chars and guard the label write:

  • spec.schedulingClass is now schema-capped: ## @maxLength 63 on all 26 charts, regenerated end-to-end — values.schema.json carries maxLength: 63, the generated types.go carry +kubebuilder:validation:MaxLength=63, cozyrds updated. Agreed on doing it now while the field is unreleased.
  • Defence in depth: applySchedulingClass validates the resolved name with validation.IsValidLabelValue and, on failure, skips only the co-affinity label — schedulerName and the annotation still apply — so a pre-existing long-named class degrades to annotation-only injection instead of the apiserver rejecting every Pod.

On the follow-ups: the #2621 commit stays at the bottom of the stack until that one merges, then I'll rebase it out; and I'll cover the per-application override + Pod label in the SchedulingClass docs in a follow-up PR.

Reopened — the inactivity was an artefact of how this change is sequenced, not a sign it was abandoned.

This is the consumer half of #2621, which sets the scheduling-class label on mutated pods and has been approved since 9 July. Landing the per-app field before the label it selects on would ship an API surface with nothing behind it, so this branch has been deliberately parked in draft waiting on its sibling rather than left to rot.

Labelled lifecycle/frozen so the pairing does not have to be re-explained to the bot every sixty days. Happy to drop the label and take the churn instead if maintainers would rather the queue reflect real inactivity.

mattia-eleuteri #2621 landed on 2026-10-01, so this needs a rebase onto main, and my change request from July still applies. Is this still something you want to finish? If there is no activity in the next two weeks, the stale bot will close it; reopening later is always fine.

Aleksei Sviridkin (@lexfrei) yes, I want to finish this one. It was parked in draft until #2621 landed, and I'll rebase it this week.

On the July change request, B1 has been addressed since 6b9dbdcd7:

  • spec.schedulingClass is capped with maxLength: 63 in every chart schema and in the generated +kubebuilder:validation:MaxLength=63.
  • applySchedulingClass skips only the label when the resolved name is not a valid label value. It still sets schedulerName and the annotation.

I'll add webhook tests for both paths during the rebase.

One design point I'd rather make explicit. The per-app field overrides the tenant's class, following the webhook's existing "owner Application field takes priority" precedence and the usual "child wins when set" rule used for host, etcd, ingress and the other services. This is intentional: co-locating two applications for performance is the tenant's call. Operators still control which placements are possible, since only they can create SchedulingClass objects. It does differ from tenant→tenant inheritance, where a child cannot override its parent's class (b821c0748). Flagging it now so it isn't a surprise at review.

mattia-eleuteri NOT LGTM. The July blocker is fixed, but the branch conflicts with main again, and an application class that names a missing SchedulingClass now switches off the tenant's class.

The 63-character cap is in every schema and every types.go, and the webhook keeps schedulerName and the annotation when it skips the label. I checked the new webhook tests against reverted code: with the label guard disabled, or with SchedulingClass() returning "", they fail. The #2621 commit is gone from the stack, and the docs follow-up is tracked in cozystack/website#749.

Blockers

B1: conflict with main

packages/system/redis-rd/cozyrds/redis.yaml conflicts with 8be7fb2, which added minReplicasToWrite and minReplicasMaxLag to Redis. The file is generated, so after the rebase make generate in packages/apps/redis resolves it. On a trial merge with that file regenerated by cozyvalues-gen v1.7.0, the other touched packages show no drift and the webhook and v1alpha1 tests pass.

B2: an unknown class on the application drops the tenant class

applySchedulingClass falls back to the namespace label only when the application value is empty. A non-empty value that names a SchedulingClass which does not exist reaches the "SchedulingClass not found, skipping scheduler injection" return, so the pod gets nothing at all.

I reproduced it with the test helpers from this PR: a namespace labelled with an existing class, an owner Postgres with schedulingClass: does-not-exist. The pod comes out with no schedulerName, no annotation and no label.

The tenant class is set by an administrator, and the tenant chart does not let a child tenant override it (packages/apps/tenant/templates/namespace.yaml). With this PR anyone who can create an application in that tenant removes the placement constraint with a typo, or on purpose, and the pods go to nodes the tenant class was keeping them away from.

Fix: when the application's class does not exist, fall back to the namespace class instead of skipping injection, and add a webhook test for that case next to the ones you added.

mattia-eleuteri on the precedence question: an app should only be able to pick a SchedulingClass the tenant is allowed to use. The admin keeps control in the tenant chart through a list of allowed classes, with the tenant's current class as the default, and the app field chooses from that list. Any other value should be rejected, not silently dropped. With this in place an app can still move to a different allowed class, but it can no longer step outside what the admin gave the tenant.

…ngClass

Replace the stub that always returned "" with a parser that extracts
`schedulingClass` from the Application's Spec JSON. This is the field
read by the lineage-controller-webhook to decide whether to inject
`schedulerName: cozystack-scheduler` and apply the named class.

When set, the per-application value takes precedence over the
namespace-level (tenant) class, because the webhook already prefers
`owner.Application.SchedulingClass()` over the namespace label.

Unit tests cover nil spec, empty raw, missing field, empty field, set
field, set field alongside other keys, and invalid JSON (returns "").

Add an optional spec.schedulingClass field to every chart whose
workloads land on the lineage-controller-webhook path: all packages
under packages/apps/ except tenant (already covered) and vpc (only
emits kube-ovn CRs, no pods), plus the schedulable packages in
packages/extra/.

When set on an application instance, the named SchedulingClass takes
precedence over the tenant-level class for the pods of that
application. Combined with the scheduling-class Pod label, this lets
operators define a SchedulingClass whose name doubles as a
co-affinity group:

    apiVersion: cozystack.io/v1alpha1
    kind: SchedulingClass
    metadata: { name: co-region-prod }
    spec:
      podAffinity:
        requiredDuringSchedulingIgnoredDuringExecution:
        - labelSelector:
            matchLabels:
              scheduler.cozystack.io/scheduling-class: co-region-prod
          topologyKey: topology.kubernetes.io/region

Attaching this class to Postgres and VirtualMachine instances in the
same tenant guarantees both end up in the same region, without
pinning a specific region.

Granularity per replica role (primary/standby for clustered DBs) is
intentionally out of scope: the role is dynamic (assigned by the
operator post-election) and the webhook acts at pod creation, so it
cannot distinguish the future primary. A future controller observing
operator-managed role labels would be needed.

A SchedulingClass name is a DNS-1123 subdomain (up to 253 chars) but
the webhook writes it verbatim as a Pod label value, capped at 63.
Constrain spec.schedulingClass with maxLength 63 in every chart schema
(@maxlength annotation, regenerated schemas/types/cozyrds) while the
field is new — tightening later would be a breaking change.

As defence in depth, applySchedulingClass now skips only the
co-affinity label (keeping schedulerName and the annotation) when the
resolved class name is not a valid label value, so a pre-existing
long-named class degrades gracefully instead of having the apiserver
reject every Pod of the application.

Both packages landed after the field was rolled out to the other
managed applications, and both run pods on the lineage-webhook path:
valkey through its RedisFailover, kubernetes-nodes through the KubeVirt
virtual machines behind its MachineDeployment. Without the field, a
pool or a Valkey instance cannot join the co-affinity group its
Kubernetes cluster or its client application already uses.

The field carries the same 63-character cap as on the other charts,
since its value becomes a Pod label value.

The existing applySchedulingClass tests only pass a nil owner, so the
path where an Application's spec.schedulingClass takes over from the
namespace label, and the guard that keeps an over-long class name off
the Pod labels, had no coverage. The owner is built as unstructured, as
the lineage walk returns it, so the tests also exercise the conversion
of spec into Application.Spec.Raw that SchedulingClass() parses.

…pick

An application's spec.schedulingClass replaces the tenant class for
its pods, and the tenant class is the administrator's placement
constraint. Without a list of permitted alternatives, anyone who can
create an application in the tenant can move it onto any class the
cluster defines.

allowedSchedulingClasses names those alternatives and defaults to
empty, so per-application placement stays off until an administrator
opts in. The tenant chart writes it to a namespace annotation, the
place the admission policy and the lineage webhook can read it from.
A parent that constrains placement passes its list down unchanged, so
a child tenant cannot allow a class its parent does not, the same way
it cannot replace the parent's class.

…refused

The webhook fell back to the namespace class only when an application
left spec.schedulingClass empty. A non-empty value naming a class that
does not exist reached the not-found return and the pod got no
scheduler at all, so a typo, or a deliberate bogus name, in any
application lifted the placement constraint the tenant administrator
had set.

An application class now applies only when the namespace lists it in
its allowed classes and the SchedulingClass exists; otherwise the pod
keeps the tenant class. Admission already refuses a class outside the
list, but checking it again here also covers a class removed from the
list after the application was admitted. Naming the tenant's own class
needs no entry, being the same as leaving the field empty.

Assisted-by: LLM
Signed-off-by: Mattia Eleuteri <[email protected]>
… allow

The lineage webhook keeps a pod on the tenant class when the
application names a class the tenant does not allow, but it can only
log that, on a pod the user never looks at. Refusing the application
at admission puts the error where the field was set, with the list of
classes that would be accepted.

An update that keeps the class is not refused, so an application whose
class was removed from the list after admission stays editable; the
webhook already keeps its pods on the tenant class. Tenants are left
out, because their spec.schedulingClass is the child tenant's class,
which the tenant chart's inheritance governs.

The policy decisions are evaluated with the apiserver's CEL compiler
against the chart template, reusing the loader of the external TLS
policy test, which now takes the template path.

The field description still said a set class takes precedence over the
tenant's, which is no longer true: only the tenant's own class or one
listed in its allowedSchedulingClasses is accepted, and anything else
is refused. Users read this text in the dashboard form and in the API
schema, so it has to name the tenant setting that decides.

Aleksei Sviridkin (@lexfrei) rebased onto main; the redis and bucket rd files were regenerated with cozyvalues-gen v1.7.0, and a full make generate over the touched packages shows no drift.

B2 is fixed in a6d7db4: an application class applies only when the namespace allows it and the SchedulingClass exists; otherwise the pod keeps the tenant class. Webhook tests cover a missing class, a class outside the list, no list at all, and no tenant class to fall back to; they fail against the previous code.

On precedence, I went with an admin-controlled allowlist, with one change from your suggestion: the default is an empty list rather than the tenant's current class. The tenant class is already what an empty spec.schedulingClass resolves to, so listing it adds nothing, and an empty default keeps per-application placement off until an administrator opts in. Naming the tenant's own class is accepted, as it is equivalent to leaving the field empty. 4bf46f3 adds allowedSchedulingClasses to the tenant chart, written to the namespace.cozystack.io/allowed-scheduling-classes annotation; a parent with a class or a list passes its list down unchanged, so a child tenant cannot widen it. 5a2f056 adds a ValidatingAdmissionPolicy on apps.cozystack.io (tenants excluded) that refuses any other value, with the decisions evaluated against the template by the apiserver's CEL compiler. An update that keeps the class is not refused, so an application whose class was later removed from the list stays editable, and the webhook keeps its pods on the tenant class.

One thing I could not verify outside a cluster: the policy reads namespaceObject under the aggregated cozystack-api, and no existing policy on apps.cozystack.io does that yet. If it does not resolve there, the webhook still enforces the list at pod admission.

The PR description, cozystack/website#749 and cozystack/terraform-provider-cozystack#69 are updated to match.

packages/apps/tenant/templates/namespace.yaml (3)

85-88: Inherited allow-list semantic is inconsistent with the parent's own class.

A child tenant whose parent has schedulingClass and an empty allow-list ignores its own allowedSchedulingClasses. That matches the documented intent. A parent tenant that sets allowedSchedulingClasses and no schedulingClass also forces its list onto children. Both cases are covered by tests. Behavior is correct as written.

One gap: the child receives the parent's allowedSchedulingClasses through _namespace. The webhook and the policy also accept the tenant's own class implicitly. No change is needed.

The newClass == oldClass exemption is intended for UPDATE. On CREATE, oldObject is null, so oldClass is "". The selects-scheduling-class match condition already excludes an empty newClass, so CREATE has no gap. The webhook checks Pods again at admission, so this design holds. The YAMLlint error on Line 1 comes from the Helm directive. It does not show a defect.

⚠️ Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Move schedulingClass out of the "ClickHouse Keeper parameters" table.

The row sits under the Keeper section. The parameter applies to the whole ClickHouse application. Readers can take it as a Keeper-only setting. The README is generated from the values.yaml @section layout, so fix the placement in packages/apps/clickhouse/values.yaml. Add a @section header before schedulingClass, or place the param under a general section. Then regenerate.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Do not treat transient lookup errors the same as a missing class.

schedulingClassExists returns false for every error. This includes timeouts and 5xx responses from the apiserver. If a transient error happens during Pod admission and the tenant class lookup fails, the webhook skips the whole injection. The Pod is then scheduled on the default scheduler and leaves the tenant's placement constraint. The Pod keeps that placement until it is recreated. Return false only for NotFound and NoMatch (CRD not installed), and return other errors so that admission fails and is retried.

- 353:
Update schedulingClassExists to distinguish absence from lookup failures: return
false without an error only for NotFound or NoMatch, and propagate other errors
so admission can fail and retry. Update its callers to handle the returned error
rather than skipping injection on transient failures.
