Summary of ChangesHello, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed! This pull request improves the user experience of the dashboard by addressing stale sessions. Instead of failing silently when the k8s-access cookie expires, the application now proactively redirects users to the oauth2-proxy re-authentication endpoint. This change ensures that users are seamlessly prompted to re-authenticate rather than being left on a broken page. Highlights

Code Review
This pull request adds unauthorized request handling to the K8sClient by introducing an onUnauthorized callback that defaults to redirecting the user to the OAuth2 login flow upon receiving a 401 status code. Feedback highlights an issue where the unauthorizedHandled state flag is never reset after a successful request, which would prevent the onUnauthorized callback from being triggered again on subsequent session expirations.
Important
The consumer version of Gemini Code Assist on GitHub is being sunset. Starting June 18, 2026, new organization installations will be blocked, and all code review activity will officially cease on July 17, 2026.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
If onUnauthorized is overridden with a custom callback (for example, to show a login modal or perform an in-page re-authentication), unauthorizedHandled will remain true forever after the first 401 error. This means subsequent session expirations will never trigger the onUnauthorized callback again.
To fix this, unauthorizedHandled should be reset to false whenever a request succeeds.
You can add this.unauthorizedHandled = false in both request and watch methods when the response is successful:
In request (around line 85):
this.unauthorizedHandled = false
if (res.status === 204) return undefined as TIn watch (around line 282):
this.unauthorizedHandled = false
if (!res.body) throw new Error("No response body for watch")

NOT LGTM — the redirect logic itself is correct, but a security/UX-sensitive auth path is merging with no regression test even though the harness supports one.
What's right (verified at head):
- Both fetch sites in K8sClient (
requestandwatch) now intercept 401, so all k8s API calls are covered. - The redirect goes to
/oauth2/start?rd=<encoded pathname+search+hash>— the oauth2-proxy sign-in convention — with the return destination preserved. Using a relativerdis the safe choice and avoids open-redirect rejection. window.location.assignis a real full-page navigation, correct for a dead session, with an SSR/non-browser guard.- The
unauthorizedHandledlatch prevents redirect storms when many concurrent calls 401 at once. /oauth2/*endpoints are not fetched through K8sClient, so a 401 from oauth2-proxy itself can't cause a redirect loop.
Blocking:
- No test. The PR body says the k8s-client package "has no test harness yet", but the client is already unit-tested from the apps/console workspace (
apps/console/src/__tests__/k8s-client/client.subresource.test.ts) viavi.stubGlobal("fetch", ...). A regression test is straightforward: inject a spy throughonUnauthorized, return a 401 response, and assert the handler fires exactly once on 401, only once across two concurrent 401s, and never on a non-401. TheonUnauthorizedhook was added specifically to make this injectable — please add the test before merge.
Minor (non-blocking): apps/console/src/lib/config.ts loadConfig() does a raw k8s API fetch that bypasses K8sClient and swallows 401 silently — fine in practice (branding-only at startup, and the next K8sClient call triggers the redirect), just noting the path is uncovered. The bot note about unauthorizedHandled never resetting only matters for a custom non-navigating onUnauthorized, of which there are none today.
The failing Build check is unrelated to this TS change (separate analysis covers it).

Verdict
NOT LGTM
The default 401 redirect hardcodes the oauth2-proxy endpoint /oauth2/start, which does not exist in the token-proxy (oidc-enabled: false) deployment mode, so the re-auth path is wrong on a supported configuration.
Findings
[MAJOR] packages/system/dashboard/images/console/packages/k8s-client/src/client.ts:10 — 401 redirect target /oauth2/start is oauth2-proxy-only; broken in token-proxy mode
defaultOnUnauthorized unconditionally navigates to /oauth2/start?rd=…. The dashboard is fronted by two mutually-exclusive proxies selected by oidc-enabled in packages/system/dashboard/templates/gatekeeper.yaml:49 (auth-proxy = oauth2-proxy) vs :116 (token-proxy). /oauth2/start is an oauth2-proxy endpoint and exists only in the OIDC branch. The token-proxy (packages/system/dashboard/images/token-proxy/main.go:377-379) registers only /oauth2/sign_in, /oauth2/sign_out, /oauth2/userinfo — there is no /oauth2/start. Its login entry point is /oauth2/sign_in.
This is the first /oauth2/* reference the SPA introduces that token-proxy does not implement: the existing calls /oauth2/userinfo (apps/console/src/lib/config.ts:35) and /oauth2/sign_out (packages/ui/src/components/layout/Header.tsx:131) are both implemented by token-proxy, which is why the app has been mode-agnostic until now.
Runtime consequence in token-proxy mode (reasoned, not executed — needs a live cluster, out of scope for static review): a navigation to /oauth2/start matches only token-proxy's catch-all / handler (main.go:525). With no cookie it 302s to /oauth2/sign_in (main.go:527-528) — so re-auth is reached via an extra hop. But with a present-but-expired token cookie the catch-all does not re-verify the token (contrast the /userinfo handler at main.go:474), so it reverse-proxies /oauth2/start to the console upstream instead of re-authenticating — no sign-in page, and a repeat-401 loop is plausible. Either way the redirect relies on an undocumented catch-all fallback rather than the correct endpoint.
Fix options: make the redirect target mode-agnostic (e.g. point both proxies' re-auth at a shared path), or add a /oauth2/start alias in token-proxy that 302s to /oauth2/sign_in, or have the SPA discover the sign-in URL (it already fetches /oauth2/userinfo). If the maintainer confirms the token-proxy catch-all handles /oauth2/start acceptably in all cookie states, this can drop to MINOR — but that must be verified, not assumed.
[MINOR] packages/system/dashboard/images/console/packages/k8s-client/src/client.ts:35,43-47 — unauthorizedHandled latch never resets
The latch is set once per client instance and never cleared. For the shipped default handler this is harmless because window.location.assign triggers a full-page reload (fresh client, latch reset). But it is a latent trap for the newly-added onUnauthorized extension point: a custom handler doing in-SPA re-auth without a full reload fires exactly once for the client's lifetime, so a second session expiry is silently ignored. Add a comment documenting the reload assumption, or reset the latch after the handler runs.
Claim mismatches
[PARTIAL] "A unit regression test is a follow-up — the k8s-client workspace package has no test harness yet" — a regression test was in fact added in this PR, placed in the console app's vitest harness at apps/console/src/__tests__/k8s-client/client.unauthorized.test.ts (importing @cozystack/k8s-client). The PR body is stale on this point; update it.
Caveats
- Upgrade / fresh-install: no chart / values.yaml / migration / RBAC / CRD changes — this ships purely as dashboard source baked into the console image. Upgrade impact is a behaviour change on 401 (redirect vs. stale page): an improvement in OIDC mode, but the MAJOR above on the token-proxy path. Fresh install unaffected (no new deps/values). No existing 401-specific handling exists in the app (grep for
status === 401acrossapps/,packages/returns none), so no graceful-401 path is preempted. - Config matrix: the relevant corner is
oidc-enabledtrue vs false — see the MAJOR. No Helm template toggles were touched. - Test adequacy: the added test is non-vacuous — verified by mutation (neutralising both
handleUnauthorizedcall sites at client.ts:82,276 → 4/6 tests went RED, the two negative tests stayed green). It covers 401-once, concurrent-401 latch, 403-negative, success-negative, watch-stream 401, and default-redirect. Full console suite 319 passed (46 files),tsc --noEmitclean, eslint clean on both changed files. Gap: the default-handler test asserts/oauth2/startunconditionally, so it encodes the OIDC-only assumption as "correct" and does not guard the token-proxy mode — the MAJOR is unguarded by tests.
Recommended follow-ups
- End-to-end verification of the 401 redirect in token-proxy mode (
oidc-enabled: false) on a disposable dev cluster, covering both cookie-absent and expired-token-present states.

jsdom 29.1.1 window.location non-configurable Object.defineProperty supported mock Vitest vi.stubGlobal
💡 Result:
In jsdom 29.1.1, window.location is a non-configurable, unforgeable property per the HTML specification, which means standard attempts to overwrite it—including via Object.defineProperty or vi.stubGlobal—will fail or trigger errors [1][2][3]. Because JSDOM strictly enforces this for compliance, you cannot simply redefine the window.location property to replace the entire object [2][4]. However, you have several effective strategies depending on your testing needs: 1. Use jsdom.reconfigure (Recommended for URL changes) If you only need to change the current URL (e.g., to test how your code handles different origins or paths), do not try to mock window.location itself. Instead, use the JSDOM reconfigure method, which is the officially supported way to change the document's URL [1]. // In Vitest, if accessing the JSDOM instance directly dom.reconfigure({ url: 'https://example.com/' }); 2. Spy on specific methods If you need to verify that code calls window.location methods like assign, reload, or replace, do not replace the location object. Instead, use vi.spyOn to spy on the existing methods [5]. vi.spyOn(window.location, 'assign').mockImplementation( => {}); 3. Override using configurable: true (Advanced) If you absolutely must replace the entire window.location object, you can only do so if you first redefine the property to be configurable. This often requires complex workarounds, such as creating a custom JSDOM Environment that intercepts the property descriptor during the window's initialization to flip the configurable flag to true [2][3]. Simply calling Object.defineProperty on an existing window will generally throw a "Cannot redefine property" error [6][4]. 4. Architecture Strategy For frequent navigation testing, the Vitest community suggests moving navigation logic behind an abstraction layer (e.g., a navigation module) [7]. By mocking this module instead of the global window.location, you avoid relying on fragile DOM-simulator internals that may differ from real browser behavior [7]. Avoid using vi.stubGlobal for window.location, as it is designed for global variables that are not already present, and it will not circumvent the non-configurable restriction imposed by jsdom [6][8].

myasnikovdaniil NOT LGTM. The code is ready to merge, but the commit messages and the PR body are not.
Business context: when the dashboard session expires, the console should send the user back through sign-in instead of sitting on a stale page.
Both earlier change requests are closed at c0dc544. The regression test is in, and it is not vacuous: I mutated client.ts nine ways (either 401 hook removed, latch guard removed, request-path re-arm removed, === 401 widened to >= 400, target switched back to /oauth2/start, hash or encoding dropped from rd) and eight of them turn the suite red. /oauth2/sign_in works for both gatekeeper modes. token-proxy renders its form on any GET there regardless of the cookie, and oauth2-proxy runs with --skip-provider-button, so it goes straight to the provider. The latch re-arms on a 2xx from either fetch site.
Main has nothing that overlaps this. packages/k8s-client is unchanged between the merge base and current main, and the only 401 logic there is the retry opt-out in provider.tsx. On a trial merge with current main, typecheck, the full console suite (438 tests), eslint on both files and the console build all pass. The red E2E Tests run is kubernetes-previous and kubernetes-latest timing out on tenant node join with a stalled tenant cilium-operator, which a console-only change can't cause.

Assisted-By: Claude <[email protected]>. docs/agents/contributing.md accepts onlyAssisted-by: LLMand lists this exact line as a blocker.hack/check-commit-trailers.shfrom main rejects all four commits with "attribution trailer value must be exactly LLM", so theCommit trailersjob will fail on the next push too. -
The commit bodies describe earlier states of this PR, and with squash off they land on main as written. e40460b says a unit regression test is a follow-up because the package has no test harness, while the next commit adds that test. 7e91698 describes the handling as "added in the previous commit, requested in review". 5cbd30c opens with "The default 401 handler navigated to /oauth2/start", a handler that only ever existed inside this PR. The easy fix is to fold 5cbd30c and c0dc544 into e40460b, so the fix commit targets
/oauth2/sign_infrom the start and keeps the reason (it's the one sign-in entry both gatekeeper modes serve). Then reword the test commit without the review references and setAssisted-by: LLMon both. -
The PR body becomes the merge commit message, and it contradicts the code. It still says the client navigates to
/oauth2/start?rd=<current-url>, but it goes to/oauth2/sign_in. It also still says the regression test is a follow-up, which the previous change request already flagged.
Non-blocking: the watch-path re-arm has no test, see the inline comment.

Nothing covers this line. With it deleted, all seven tests in client.unauthorized.test.ts still pass: the re-arm test only goes through get(). A watch that opens with 200 after a 401 and then sees another 401 would pin it.

K8sClient now treats 401 as an auth boundary and makes one top-level navigation into the oauth2-proxy sign-in flow, passing the current location as rd so the user comes back to the same page. The handler can be replaced through K8sClientConfig.onUnauthorized and does nothing outside the browser. The unauthorizedHandled latch keeps concurrent 401s from redirecting more than once. Re-applied from cozystack/cozystack-ui#34 onto the in-tree console after the UI was vendored (#2963), since the source repo is being archived. Related: #2788. The 401 handling is what brings an expired session back to sign-in,
and a regression in it stays invisible until a cookie expires. The
test drives K8sClient through the vi.stubGlobal("fetch", ...) harness
the sibling k8s-client tests use. It checks that the hook fires once
per 401 from both the request and the watch fetch sites, once across
concurrent 401s, never on other responses, and that the default
handler passes the current location as a relative rd, which
oauth2-proxy's open-redirect check accepts.

The dashboard gatekeeper runs one of two mutually exclusive proxies, chosen by the cluster's oidc-enabled flag (templates/gatekeeper.yaml). /oauth2/start exists only in oauth2-proxy. The token-proxy branch registers only sign_in, sign_out and userinfo under the /oauth2 prefix, so there /oauth2/start falls through to the catch-all reverse-proxy handler, which does not re-verify the token. With a present but expired cookie it proxies the request to the console upstream, the SPA reloads, gets a 401 again and loops. /oauth2/sign_in is the one entry point both modes implement, so the default 401 handler goes there. oauth2-proxy's sign_in hands straight off to OAuthStart because the gatekeeper passes --skip-provider-button, and it resolves rd through the same app-director, so the OIDC path behaves as it does through /oauth2/start. token-proxy serves its token form there. It does not honour rd yet, so after sign-in the user lands on / instead of looping. Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Myasnikov Daniil <[email protected]>
unauthorizedHandled was set once per client and never cleared, so it collapsed every later 401 too, not just the concurrent ones it was meant to. Harmless for the shipped default handler, which navigates away and takes the client with it, but the onUnauthorized hook exists precisely so a caller can re-auth in place, and such a handler would fire exactly once for the client's lifetime and then go silent. Clear the latch on any 2xx from either fetch site: a success means the session is alive again, so the next 401 is a new episode. The storm guard still holds, since concurrent 401s have no success between them. Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Myasnikov Daniil <[email protected]>

myasnikovdaniil I tidied the description and commit messages so they match the code, the trailers were already fixed. LGTM.

LGTM. Both earlier findings are addressed: re-auth now targets /oauth2/sign_in (verified against token-proxy and pinned oauth2-proxy v7.12.0) and the latch re-arms on a 2xx.
Non-blocking: no loop guard if re-auth succeeds but the apiserver keeps returning 401 (each cycle is a full reload, so the latch resets and nothing counts attempts); and in token-proxy mode rd is ignored, so the user lands on / after re-login. Merge still needs the API-owner review.
What this PR does
When the dashboard session expires, the console now sends the user back to sign-in instead of sitting on a stale page. This re-applies cozystack/cozystack-ui#34 by IvanHunters onto the in-tree console, since the UI was vendored into the monorepo (#2963) and the standalone repo is being archived. It is part of the cozystack-ui retirement tracked in #3097.
When the
kc-accesscookie expires, k8s API calls return 401.K8sClientnow treats a 401 as an auth boundary and makes one top-level navigation to/oauth2/sign_in?rd=<current-url>. That path is the sign-in entry both gatekeeper modes serve. With OIDC enabled, oauth2-proxy goes straight to the provider (--skip-provider-button) and returns the user tord. Without OIDC, token-proxy renders its token form there, but it does not honourrdyet, so the user lands on/after sign-in.The handler can be replaced through
K8sClientConfig.onUnauthorizedand does nothing outside the browser. A latch keeps concurrent 401s from redirecting more than once, and any 2xx from either fetch site re-arms it, so a handler that re-authenticates in place still sees the next expiry.Related: #2788.
