Verdict
NOT LGTM
Vendors OpenEBS localpv-provisioner 4.5.1 as a new packages/system/local-storage package + a cozystack.local-storage PackageSource. Two MAJOR issues around StorageClass collision and cluster-wide RBAC block it. (Noted: this PR is a draft — flagging early so the design can be adjusted before it is marked ready.)
Findings
[MAJOR] packages/system/local-storage/values.yaml:13-14 — the new default StorageClass is name: local + isDefaultClass: true, which collides by name with the StorageClass/local that every full/generic-variant cluster already creates imperatively for LINSTOR (hack/e2e-post-install-prep.sh:75-78, provisioner: linstor.csi.linbit.com). Since the package installs via cozypkg add against the same default variant every cluster registers, installing it on an existing cluster makes Helm's ownership check reject the create, leaving the HelmRelease permanently Failed; on a cluster whose default SC has a different name it silently creates a second default SC, making PVC binding non-deterministic. Nothing scopes the install to LINSTOR-free clusters. Rename the SC (e.g. local-hostpath) and/or gate the default flag.
[MAJOR] packages/system/local-storage/charts/localpv-provisioner/templates/rbac.yaml:32-49 — the vendored provisioner ships cluster-wide wildcard RBAC (apiGroups: ["*"] verbs ["*"] on namespaces/pods/events/endpoints, plus openebs.io/*) bound via ClusterRoleBinding. Confirmed byte-identical to upstream v4.5.1 (inherited, not introduced), but the sibling nfs-driver package scopes its RBAC to specific types with no wildcards. This is the first packages/system/ package to grant cluster-wide delete on pods/namespaces; if it becomes the platform default SC (its stated intent) the blast radius spans every tenant namespace. Constrain via patches/*.diff + Makefile re-apply, or justify the breadth explicitly.
[MINOR] PR body is missing the required ```release-note fenced block (.github/PULL_REQUEST_TEMPLATE.md:30-32).
[MINOR] docs/proposals/e2e-lightweight-container-lane.md reads as scratch planning notes (feedback IDs, emojis, open questions) merged into main. Consider tidying before merge.
Caveats
- The bootstrap-flagged
packagesource-no-bundleMAJOR was downgraded:sources.yamlregisters all sources unconditionally, the repo has precedent for unwired PackageSources, and this matches the PR's draft intent. - The
charts-direct-editinvariant was ruled a false positive: the vendored copy is byte-identical to published upstream v4.5.1 — a brand-new vendor, not an edit. - No claim mismatches — all PR-body technical claims were independently re-derived and held.

LGTM.
Both blockers from the previous review are fixed. I checked the RBAC patch against upstream rather than just reading it: in dynamic-localpv-provisioner v4.5.1 helper_hostpath.go only does Create/Delete/Get on Pods(p.namespace), start.go only touches ConfigMaps(a.namespace), and nodes are reached through List in provisioner_hostpath.go and Get in provisioner.go. So the namespaced Role and the dropped watch on nodes are both correct. The removed openebs.io and CRD grants have no caller either. v4.5.1 has no device-class path and the vendored chart ships no device-class template.
Tests are not vacuous. Setting isDefaultClass to true reddens "uses a distinct class with delayed binding and no automatic default" on the notExists assert. Adding secrets to the ClusterRole reddens rbac_test.py. Both restored after.
Still open from the last review: the PR body has no release-note block (.github/PULL_REQUEST_TEMPLATE.md:30-32). Not blocking, nothing in the changelog tooling reads it, but that is the second time it comes up.
Two things for later, neither blocking. First, tests/rbac_test.py is the only Python test under packages/ or hack/. The check itself is worth keeping, helm-unittest cannot resolve effective permissions across the binding graph. But hack/cozystack-controller-secret-rbac.bats does the same job in bats for the same stated reason, and that is where the next person will look for it. Second, nothing installs this package anywhere yet, so the narrowed RBAC never meets a real API server. I read the call sites, I did not run them. Worth carrying into the PR that wires up the lane.
The red Unit & controller tests is unrelated. rd-presets-check reports t1.xlarge missing from packages/system/redis-rd/cozyrds/redis.yaml, and the preset is in the file. Known false negative in that checker.

myasnikovdaniil this is approved and merges cleanly, but it is still a draft. IvanHunters' review is from July, before the 2026-09-10 rework. Can you mark it ready and ask him to re-review? |

myasnikovdaniil LGTM. The branch was reworked after my approval on c869dcb, so I reviewed the whole package again, with the new platform wiring first.
The package stays opt-in. I rendered the platform chart with values.yaml and each of the six values-isp-* files, on main and on a trial merge of this branch. The only difference is the new cozystack.local-storage PackageSource, and no variant gets a Package. Switching optional.default to default in bundles/system.yaml turns "does not install local storage with ordinary system defaults" red. Dropping the include turns "emits a Package only for explicit system bundle selection" red. The source depends only on cozystack.networking, and nothing depends on it, so there is no cycle.
The patched RBAC matches what upstream v4.5.1 and sig-storage-lib-external-provisioner v13.0.0 actually call. Helper Pods are created, polled and deleted in the provisioner's namespace, and the leader-election Lease goes to POD_NAMESPACE. Cluster-wide it needs events in the PVC's namespace, claim updates, and PV create, patch and delete. Dropping patch on persistentvolumes turns tests/rbac_test.py red.
The image pins are fine. Both are third-party refs with the digest inside tag, and collect_image_refs picks them up. The digests match the current indexes of provisioner-localpv:4.5.1 and linux-utils:4.5.0, and both indexes have linux/amd64 and linux/arm64.
On the trial merge, make test in the package, the platform chart's 244 cases, and the package and labeler contract Bats files pass.
The only conflict with main is in pr-labeler.yaml. Main added three scopes to the same area/storage block, so the resolution keeps them and appends local-storage, and hack/pr-labeler-contract.bats passes on that.
The July review from IvanHunters is addressed: the class no longer takes the name local or the default flag, the wildcard ClusterRole is patched away, the release-note block is there, and the proposal document is gone from the branch.
E2E Tests failed on chainsaw/kubernetes-latest in run 36835558381. Nothing in that run installs this package, so it is not from this diff.
Non-blocking: make update-image-pins fails on a macOS arm64 host, because skopeo inspect --format '{{.Digest}}' tries to pick a darwin/arm64 image from the index. With --override-os linux it returns the index digest.

LGTM. Both envelope flags are false positives: the vendored chart equals upstream 4.5.1 plus patches/rbac.diff byte-for-byte, and the wildcard RBAC hits are only in the un-rendered PSP. The narrowed provisioner RBAC covers every API call traced against upstream v4.5.1. The package is opt-in and off by default, and the image digests match the registry.
Note (already in the README): hostpath PVs share the node filesystem with no per-PVC quota, so this is not a tenant isolation boundary. Merge still needs the API-owner review.
LINSTOR needs the DRBD and ZFS kernel modules, so a cluster without them has no dynamic PV provisioning. OpenEBS LocalPV hostpath needs no kernel modules and also serves deliberately node-local workloads. The package is opt-in so it cannot change an existing cluster. Its class is named cozystack-local-hostpath so it cannot collide with an existing class name, and it is not the default so PVCs that omit storageClassName keep their current binding. The vendored RBAC is patched down to what volume reconciliation calls; helper Pods, Leases and analytics state stay in the install namespace. Images stay on docker.io, pinned by index digest. Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Myasnikov Daniil <[email protected]>
The labeler falls back to area/uncategorized for a scope it does not know, and re-applies the fallback on every run, so a manually fixed label does not stay. The local-storage package is a storage component, and its PR title scope should land on area/storage. Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Myasnikov Daniil <[email protected]>

myasnikovdaniil I rebased this onto current main. I also regenerated packages/core/platform/tests/fixtures/selective-install-postgres-values.yaml, which main now checks against select-install.sh, so it lists cozystack.local-storage as disabled too.

Adds
packages/system/local-storage, an optional package that vendors OpenEBS Dynamic LocalPV (chart 4.5.1) and registers it as thecozystack.local-storagePackageSource. A cluster without the DRBD and ZFS kernel modules can't run LINSTOR, so it has no dynamic PV provisioning, hostpath volumes cover that. They also fit deliberately node-local workloads.cozystack-local-hostpath,WaitForFirstConsumer,Deletereclaim. It is not the default and doesn't take any existing class name.bundles.enabledPackages, no built-in variant enables it. Alone it installs withcozypkg add cozystack.local-storage.patches/rbac.diff(reapplied bymake update) to what volume reconciliation calls. Helper Pods, leader election Leases and analytics state stay in the install namespace, helpers are still privileged because they work on host directories.make update-image-pins, nothing is rebuilt or mirrored.local-storagescope is mapped toarea/storageinpr-labeler.yaml, without it the title lands inarea/uncategorizedon every run.Tested with helm-unittest (StorageClass, PackageSource registration) and
tests/rbac_test.py(effective permissions across the bindings). Not tried on a live cluster yet. Nothing installs the package by default, the container cluster e2e lane that will use it is a follow-up (#3238).Screenshots
Not a UI change.
Downstream repositories
Website follow-up is an issue, the docs there describe a package that isn't merged yet. The diff adds a platform component and touches no platform values, ApplicationDefinition, tooling or
hack/path, so nothing else in the trigger map matches.Release note
