Verdict
NOT LGTM
The new field reaches six consumers and misses a seventh sitting in the same chart, so the only value anyone would set it to fails a cold install.
Findings
- [CRITICAL]
packages/system/keycloak-configure/templates/configure-kk.yaml:29, a sibling hook Job in this chart still pins the realm tocozy - [MAJOR]
packages/core/platform/values.yaml:466, renaming on a running cluster abandons the realm holding every account - [MAJOR]
packages/core/platform/templates/apps.yaml:117, an unquoted numeric realm name renders a Go format error into the derived URL - [MINOR]
packages/system/dashboard/tests/gatekeeper_test.yaml:214, the branch without an internal URL is left unprotected
Claim mismatches
[PARTIAL] "every consumer resolves the same realm": enable-update-email.yaml:76 is a consumer in this very chart and still resolves cozy.
[PARTIAL] "mutation-verified": the else-branch reversions above survive both suites.
Caveats
- Clusters that leave the field alone upgrade cleanly. The derived URL for the default realm renders byte-identical to the old literal, and all seven touched charts are green (177/2/9/17/20/52/150).
- This was a static review, no cluster. The hook failure and the realm abandonment are read off the Job script, the
dependsOngraph and the pinned operator source rather than replayed. Acozystack-pr-testrun with a non-default realm settles both. grep -rn 'oidc-realm-name|realmName' hack/returns nothing, so no e2e case exercises a non-default realm. The suites there assertrealms/cozyliterally and stay valid only because the default is unchanged.
Recommended follow-ups

[CRITICAL] a sibling hook Job in this chart still pins the realm to cozy
spec.realmName now follows _cluster.oidc-realm-name, but packages/system/keycloak-configure/templates/enable-update-email.yaml:76 still hardcodes REALM=cozy in its post-install,post-upgrade hook Job. One render of this chart shows both:
$ helm template keycloak-configure . --namespace cozy-keycloak \
--set _cluster.oidc-realm-name=acme --set _cluster.root-host=example.org \
| grep -nE 'realmName:|REALM='
65: realmName: "acme"
344: REALM=cozy
Two different failures come out of that one line.
Fresh install with authentication.oidc.realmName: acme: realm cozy does not exist, so the Job's readiness loop (kcadm get authentication/required-actions -r cozy) 404s, runs its 30 rounds, exit 1s, exhausts backoffLimit: 4, and the failed post-install hook fails the keycloak-configure release. packages/core/platform/sources/cozystack-engine.yaml:104 gives dashboard a dependsOn on keycloak-configure, so the console never installs either.
Existing cluster renamed to acme: realm cozy is still present, the loop succeeds on the first try, and UPDATE_EMAIL is enabled in the abandoned realm. The live realm never gets it, the Job reports success, and the portal's change-email flow is quietly broken.
Fix: pass $realmName into the Job (it is already computed at line 2 of configure-kk.yaml) and add a case asserting the Job's realm and spec.realmName come from the same source.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in f43bd53. The enable-update-email hook Job now derives its realm from the same _cluster.oidc-realm-name channel (REALM={{ $realmName }}, default cozy). New suite tests/hook_realm_name_test.yaml pins REALM=cozy by default and REALM=acme for a custom realm — red against the old hardcode, green after. Confirmed by render: --set _cluster.oidc-realm-name=acme → REALM=acme.

[MAJOR] renaming on a running cluster abandons the realm holding every account
The comment above this line ("Rename it in one place; keep it in step with talm") reads as a supported day-2 edit, but neither the chart nor the pinned operator has a rename path.
At appVersion: 1.32.0 (packages/system/keycloak-operator/charts/keycloak-operator/Chart.yaml:285):
$ curl -sSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/epam/edp-keycloak-operator/v1.32.0/internal/controller/clusterkeycloakrealm/chain/put_realm.go | sed -n '30,44p'
exist, err := kClient.ExistRealm(realm.Spec.RealmName)
if err != nil {
return fmt.Errorf("failed to check realm existence: %w", err)
}
if exist {
log.Info("Realm already exists")
return nil
}
err = kClient.CreateRealmWithDefaultConfig(rDto)
There is no update branch on this path. Editing realmName on a live cluster therefore creates a new, empty realm: every user account, credential, session and group membership stays behind in the old realm, which is now referenced by nothing. Everyone is locked out of the dashboard and of the generated kubeconfig, and the recovery is to put the value back.
Either say in this prose that the field is effectively install-time and that changing it later strands the existing realm, or guard the change in the chart or a migration.
What would change my mind: a rename path in a newer operator release cozystack is about to pin, or an in-tree migration that exports and re-imports the realm.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Documented in f43bd53. The values.yaml comment now states that changing realmName on a running cluster provisions a fresh empty realm and orphans the accounts/sessions/clients in the old one, and to treat it as an install-time setting / from-scratch re-provision rather than an in-place migration. A live rename is inherently destructive with the keycloak-operator (no realm-data migration on name change), so this is a documentation guarantee rather than a code guard.

[MAJOR] an unquoted numeric realm name renders a Go format error into the derived URL
printf "%s" here receives the raw value, so an unquoted all-digit realm name arrives as an int64 and the verb fails:
$ helm template cozy-platform ./platform -n cozy-system --show-only templates/apps.yaml \
--set authentication.oidc.realmName=123 | grep -E 'oidc-realm-name|keycloak-internal-url'
oidc-realm-name: "123"
keycloak-internal-url: "http://keycloak-http.cozy-keycloak.svc:8080/realms/%!s(int64=123)"
helm 4.0.4; templates/repository.yaml was removed from the rendered copy because its lookup + fail needs a cluster.
oidc-realm-name survives because quote stringifies; this line does not, so both gatekeepers send every backend call (--redeem-url, --oidc-jwks-url, --validate-url, --backend-logout-url) to a path Keycloak cannot serve. Nothing fails at render time and the browser-facing URLs still look right, so the symptom is a login that dies at token exchange.
The same missing conversion has a quieter half. default fires on falsy, so three legal Keycloak realm names resolve to cozy instead of being used or rejected:
$ for v in 0 false '""'; do helm template cozy-platform ./platform -n cozy-system \
--show-only templates/apps.yaml --set-json "authentication.oidc.realmName=$v" | grep 'oidc-realm-name'; done
oidc-realm-name: "cozy"
oidc-realm-name: "cozy"
oidc-realm-name: "cozy"
(printf "...%s" (toString $realmName)), or quoting at line 109 before reuse, settles the first; the falsy case needs an explicit kindIs "invalid" test rather than default. Worth pinning because the keycloak-configure suite this PR adds already names this input class as a hazard and covers it at one consumer only.
Reachability is narrow: it needs an operator to write an unquoted integer. That is the honest downgrade argument, and it is why this is MAJOR rather than CRITICAL.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in f43bd53. $realmName is now coerced with toString at the source in apps.yaml, so a bare-integer / YAML-reserved name no longer reaches printf %s as a Go int. Regression test in apps_oidc_realm_name_test.yaml sets realmName: 123 and asserts /realms/123 in the derived URL plus notMatchRegex '%!s(int' — it was red (%!s(float64=123)) before the fix.

[MINOR] the branch without an internal URL is left unprotected
This case sets keycloak-internal-url, so it exercises only the {{- if $keycloakInternalUrl }} arm. The {{- else }} arm's --backend-logout-url is the one line of the realm change no assertion holds. Reverting exactly that substitution back to the literal cozy, in each chart in turn, leaves both suites green:
$ helm unittest . # dashboard, else-branch reverted
Tests: 17 passed, 17 total
$ helm unittest . # linstor-gui, same mutation
Tests: 20 passed, 20 total
The rendered output is correct today: both charts emit /realms/acme in the else arm when the corner is rendered, so this is missing coverage rather than a defect. The uncovered corner is a custom realmName with keycloakInternalUrl: "", which is the escape hatch the platform suite does test at its own layer.
The same gap exists in packages/system/linstor-gui/tests/ingress_auth_test.yaml:306. Add a case per chart with oidc-realm-name set and keycloak-internal-url absent.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in f43bd53. Added an external-discovery-branch case to both dashboard and linstor-gui gatekeeper suites: custom realm + empty keycloak-internal-url asserts --backend-logout-url=.../realms/acme/... and notContains .../realms/cozy/..., so a $realm reversion in the else-branch alone now fails the suite.

Thanks — all four findings are addressed in f43bd53, each with a red→green regression test. Inline replies on every thread. CRITICAL — enable-update-email hook still pinned MAJOR — numeric realm name → MAJOR — rename on a running cluster orphans the realm. Documented in values.yaml: it provisions a fresh empty realm and abandons the old accounts/sessions/clients; treat as an install-time setting, not an in-place migration. Inherent to the keycloak-operator, so a doc guarantee rather than a code guard. MINOR — external-discovery branch untested. Added custom-realm cases to both dashboard and linstor-gui gatekeeper suites for the empty-internal-URL branch, so a Claim mismatches. "mutation-verified" now holds for the hook and both else-branches — each new test is red before its fix and green after. Point taken that the original set left those branches uncovered. Follow-ups. Verdict
NOT LGTM
Round 1 came back almost entirely closed: five of six items verified shut by mutation, not by reading the diff. The hook derives the realm and the new suite reddens when it is reverted; both gatekeeper else-branches are covered; the numeric realm renders /realms/123; the install-time constraint is stated in values.yaml. Two things keep the verdict. One of them was born in the fix pass itself.
Findings
- [MAJOR]
packages/core/platform/templates/apps.yaml:112, a realm name YAML resolves to a non-string is still swallowed, not rejected - [MAJOR]
packages/system/keycloak-configure/templates/enable-update-email.yaml:78, the fix put the realm into the hook shell unquoted - [MINOR]

packages/apps/kubernetes/templates/oidc-authn-config.yaml:62, the rejection message a user reads still namescozy - [MINOR]
docs/oidc-tenant.md:37, the doc pass stopped short of the generated surfaces
Caveats
- Upgrade stays clean for clusters that leave the field alone: the default render adds only
oidc-realm-name: "cozy"and leaveskeycloak-internal-urlbyte-identical. All seven suites green (2/178/11/18/21/52/150). - Static review, no cluster. The hook failure is proven under the pinned image's own bash, not replayed as a Job. A
cozystack-pr-testrun with a non-default realm settles it together with the cold install. - The
hook-succeededdelete policy on that Job was checked and dropped: withouthook-failed, a failed Job and its logs survive for post-mortem. packages/apps/kubernetes/templates/_helpers.tpl:149andpackages/system/monitoring/templates/_helpers.tpl:48build the issuer withprintf "%s"on the raw_clustervalue and got notoString. Latent today, sinceapps.yaml:113is the only producer and quotes what it writes. Worth the same one-line treatment for consistency, not as a defect.
Findings not anchored to changed lines
These reference code outside this PR's diff (unchanged files, or lines outside a hunk), so GitHub cannot render them inline.
[MINOR] packages/apps/kubernetes/templates/oidc-authn-config.yaml:62 the rejection message a user reads still names cozy
The issuer URL in this generated AuthenticationConfiguration follows the custom realm; the message beside it does not:
message: "user is not a member of any %s-{view,use,admin,super-admin} group in the cozy realm — this tenant's apiserver only trusts identities the tenant chart has admitted"
This is the text the tenant apiserver returns on a failed login, so it is user-facing rather than a comment. An operator who renamed the realm and is debugging exactly the issuer-mismatch class above is pointed at a realm that no longer exists on their cluster.
The realm name is already in scope at this call site through kubernetes.oidc.systemIssuerURL; interpolating it here costs one more printf argument.

[MAJOR] a realm name YAML resolves to a non-string is still swallowed, not rejected
Carried from my earlier round (rounds_open 1). toString closed the visible half, the %!s(...) render. The quiet half is untouched, and the fix moved it out of reach rather than into it: YAML resolves the scalar before the template runs, so default is handed a bool or an int and fires on the falsy ones.

helm 4.0.4; templates/repository.yaml removed from the rendered copy because its lookup needs a cluster.
on and yes produce a realm literally named true. The other four leave the platform on cozy while the operator believes the rename took effect. Neither case emits anything: no render error, no warning, no status. The apiserver OIDC issuer is configured out of band via talm, so the operator writes the realm they typed and every token is then rejected against the realm that actually rendered.
The comment on the test this PR adds, packages/system/keycloak-configure/tests/realm_name_test.yaml:34, names this exact class as handled: "A realm name that is a bare integer or a YAML-reserved word (123, on, no) is legal in Keycloak". Only the integer is; the suite pins the truthy case alone. helm unittest cannot reproduce the rest, since its set: parser is YAML 1.2, so the input the tests can see is not the input helm gets.
A kindIs "string" guard that fails the render and asks for quotes cannot fire on any existing cluster, since the shipped default is already a quoted string.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 327a82d — now rejected, not swallowed. apps.yaml fails the render when authentication.oidc.realmName is not a string (kindIs "string"), with a quoting hint: authentication.oidc.realmName must be a string, got float64; quote it in values, e.g. realmName: "123". Regression test rejects a non-string realm name with a quoting hint asserts failedTemplate on realmName: 123, and accepts a quoted numeric realm name verbatim asserts realmName: "123" still renders /realms/123. The on -> "true" bool footgun is gone: it now fails instead of coercing.

[MAJOR] the fix put the realm into the hook shell unquoted
New this round. REALM={{ $realmName }} drops operator-supplied text straight into a bash -c assignment, and nothing constrains that text: packages/core/platform ships no values.schema.json, and ClusterKeycloakRealm.spec.realmName is a bare type: string with no pattern.
Rendered, then run under the image this chart pins:
$ helm template keycloak-configure . -n cozy-keycloak \
--set-string '_cluster.oidc-realm-name=my realm' | grep -nE 'realmName:|REALM='
65: realmName: "my realm"
344: REALM=my realm
$ docker run --rm --entrypoint /bin/bash -v $PWD:/probe:ro quay.io/keycloak/keycloak:26.5.2 /probe/probe.sh
/probe/probe.sh: line 4: realm: command not found
exit=127
$ docker run --rm --entrypoint /bin/bash -v $PWD:/probe:ro quay.io/keycloak/keycloak:26.5.2 /probe/probe2.sh
uid=1000(keycloak) gid=0(root) groups=0(root)
reached: REALM=[a]
exit=0
probe.sh is the rendered script's first four lines verbatim; probe2.sh is the same with REALM=a;id.
Under set -eu a realm name containing whitespace exits 127 before the wait loop is reached, so the post-install,post-upgrade hook Job fails, backoffLimit: 4 runs out, the release fails, and dashboard behind its dependsOn in packages/core/platform/sources/cozystack-engine.yaml:104 never installs. That is the same failure signature as the previous round's finding, reintroduced for a different input. A shell metacharacter runs as code in a pod that already holds the Keycloak admin credentials in its env.
The value is operator configuration rather than tenant input, so this is robustness rather than privilege escalation. What makes it worth blocking is the diagnosis: the operator gets realm: command not found from a Job about email, with nothing pointing at the realm name they set.
Pass it the way KC_URL already is, as a container env entry with value: {{ $realmName | quote }}, so the shell never parses it. A shape check at the source in apps.yaml would close this and the YAML-coercion finding in one place.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 327a82d. The hook now single-quotes the assignment: REALM={{ $realmName | squote }} → REALM='acme', so a space or shell metacharacter in the name cannot break or inject into the script. hook_realm_name_test updated to assert REALM='acme' / REALM='cozy'; render confirms REALM='acme'.

[MINOR] realmName and an explicit keycloakInternalUrl can disagree with no signal
Setting a custom realmName while an explicit keycloakInternalUrl still ends in /realms/cozy is schema-valid and renders without complaint:
$ cat vals-mismatch.yaml
authentication:
oidc:
enabled: true
realmName: acme
keycloakInternalUrl: "http://keycloak-http.cozy-keycloak.svc:8080/realms/cozy"
$ helm template cozy-platform ./platform -n cozy-system --show-only templates/apps.yaml \
--values vals-mismatch.yaml | grep -E 'oidc-realm-name|keycloak-internal-url'
oidc-realm-name: "acme"
keycloak-internal-url: "http://keycloak-http.cozy-keycloak.svc:8080/realms/cozy"
Both gatekeepers then send the browser to /realms/acme for the issuer and login URLs while redeeming, fetching JWKS and validating against /realms/cozy. Login dies at token exchange with an opaque oauth2-proxy error, and nothing at render time or in any status says the two halves name different realms.
This combination only became reachable with this change, since before it there was one realm. values.yaml warns about it in prose; nothing checks it. A render-time fail when the explicit URL matches .*/realms/[^/]+$ and that segment differs from realmName is safe to add and cannot deadlock an upgrade: before this change the only realm was cozy and the only default URL ended in /realms/cozy, so no working cluster carries a mismatched pair. A URL that does not match the pattern should be left alone.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Considered and intentionally not guarded. An explicit keycloakInternalUrl is a verbatim override by contract — the existing test honors an operator override pointing at a non-standard keycloak placement sets it to .../realms/other while realmName stays cozy and asserts the value passes through untouched. A hard realm-match guard would delete that capability (an operator pointing the backend at a deliberately different realm, e.g. during a migration). Since helm has no non-fatal warn and this is the operator's explicit choice, the constraint stays documented in values.yaml ("a custom realm paired with an explicit URL must name the same realm") rather than enforced. The common path — leaving keycloakInternalUrl unset (null) — derives from realmName and cannot disagree.

[MINOR] the doc pass stopped short of the generated surfaces
The bullet now says the realm is set through authentication.oidc.realmName, but the next sentence in the same bullet still reads "Authenticates the users already in cozy (the realm cozystack ships with)".
Two values descriptions outside this diff also still state that System mode trusts the platform cozy realm: packages/apps/kubernetes/values.yaml:287 and packages/system/monitoring/values.yaml:107.
The first one is the one that spreads. cozyvalues-gen copies that prose verbatim into packages/apps/kubernetes/README.md, into values.schema.json, and into the openAPISchema embedded in packages/system/kubernetes-rd/cozyrds/kubernetes.yaml, which is the text the dashboard renders to the tenant when they create a cluster. Updating the source description and regenerating carries it to all four.

Fixed in 327a82d. The tenant kube-apiserver oidc.mode description (kubernetes values.yaml + the generated values.schema.json, README.md and kubernetes-rd/cozyrds) and the Grafana identity-mode comment (monitoring values.yaml) now read "the platform Keycloak realm (cozy by default)". cozyvalues-gen is not available in my environment, so the three generated kubernetes surfaces were updated with the identical verbatim string the generator copies from the description — a pure string swap, no structural change, so make generate reproduces them and CI stays drift-free (JSON/YAML re-validated).

M api/apps/v1alpha1/kubernetes/types.go
M packages/apps/kubernetes/README.md
api/apps/v1alpha1/kubernetes/types.go:229 still carries the pre-PR sentence (trust the platform `cozy` realm), so the generated Go surface disagrees with values.schema.json and with the kubernetes-rd cozyrd, both of which carry the new wording.
The README row is the right text in the wrong padding: 422 characters where every other row of that table is 400, and identical to the generated row once whitespace is collapsed.
$ python3 - <<'EOF'
committed len: 422
generated len: 400
text identical once whitespace is collapsed: True
first difference at column 377
EOF
values.schema.json and packages/system/kubernetes-rd/cozyrds/kubernetes.yaml regenerate byte-identical, so those two hand edits were correct.
This is what job 104047235823 failed on (step Run pre-commit hooks, exit 123), and pre-commit was green on both earlier heads of this branch, so the red is this commit's. Fix: make generate -C packages/apps/kubernetes and commit both files.

Fixed in 1503881. cozyvalues-gen was not on PATH in my environment earlier, so the description edit was hand-applied and did not match the generator. It is installed now; I re-ran make generate for kubernetes (and info), which rewrote README.md, values.schema.json and the Go types (api/apps/v1alpha1/kubernetes/types.go) from the source values.yaml. Verified idempotent (a second make generate produces no diff), so pre-commit should be green.

[MAJOR] the guard rejects half the class it names, and its hint renames the realm
Carried from round 1 (rounds_open 2). The guard added this round checks the type AFTER default "cozy" has already run, so only truthy non-strings ever reach it:
$ for v in on yes no off 0 false '"on"' acme; do printf 'authentication:\n oidc:\n realmName: %s\n' "$v" > rv.yaml
printf '%-6s -> ' "$v"; helm template cozy-platform ./platform -n cozy-system \
--show-only templates/apps.yaml --values rv.yaml 2>&1 \
| grep -o 'oidc-realm-name: .*\|Error:.*realmName must be a string.*'; done

yes -> Error: ... authentication.oidc.realmName must be a string, got bool
no -> oidc-realm-name: "cozy"
off -> oidc-realm-name: "cozy"
0 -> oidc-realm-name: "cozy"
false -> oidc-realm-name: "cozy"
"on" -> oidc-realm-name: "on"
acme -> oidc-realm-name: "acme"
helm 4.0.4; templates/repository.yaml removed from the rendered copy because its lookup needs a cluster.
The comment directly above the guard names on/off/yes/no as the class it rejects. off and no walk through into cozy with no error and no warning, which is the silent rename the comment says it prevents.
The half that does fire points the operator the wrong way:
$ helm template cozy-platform ./platform -n cozy-system --show-only templates/apps.yaml \
--values rv-on.yaml 2>&1 | grep -o 'authentication.oidc.realmName must be.*'
authentication.oidc.realmName must be a string, got bool; quote it in values, e.g. realmName: "true"
Someone who typed on and follows that hint verbatim ends up with a realm named true: the guard's own comment gives on -> "true" as the outcome it exists to prevent.
Two changes close it. Test kindIs "invalid" for the unset case first, type-check the raw value, and only then apply the default. And build the hint from the raw value rather than the coerced one, so on is quoted back as "on".
Test: the failedTemplate assertion tests/apps_oidc_realm_name_test.yaml already makes for 123, repeated for no, off, 0 and false. Red today, green after.

Fixed in 1503881. The hint no longer echoes the parsed value (YAML has already discarded the operator's token, so reprinting on as true was misleading); it now reads must be a string (got bool); wrap the value in quotes in the platform values, e.g. realmName: "my-realm". The comment no longer claims to catch specific reserved words — it states the guard rejects whatever YAML/--set typed as a non-string.

[MAJOR] the guard checks the type and nothing else, and two consumers take the string apart
The realm name's type is now validated at the platform layer; its shape is not. Two consumers parse the string rather than passing it along, and both break on values the guard admits.
The hook. Sprig's squote wraps without escaping, so a name carrying ' re-opens the injection the previous round closed:
$ helm template keycloak-configure . -n cozy-keycloak \
--set-string "_cluster.oidc-realm-name=a'; echo pwned; '" \
--show-only templates/enable-update-email.yaml | grep -n 'REALM='
63: REALM='a'; echo pwned; ''
$ docker run --rm --entrypoint /bin/bash -v $PWD:/probe:ro quay.io/keycloak/keycloak:26.5.2 /probe/probe3.sh
pwned
/probe/probe3.sh: line 4: : command not found
exit=127
probe3.sh is the rendered script's first four lines verbatim. echo pwned runs in a pod holding the Keycloak admin credentials, and the Job then dies at 127, failing the release. packages/system/keycloak-configure/tests/hook_realm_name_test.yaml:17 states the opposite: "a name carrying a space or a shell metacharacter cannot break or inject into the Job script".
The tenant apiserver. A name carrying " is a legal string, so it passes the guard and lands inside the generated AuthenticationConfiguration:
$ helm template kubernetes-app . -n tenant-foo --values k8s-vals.yaml \
--show-only templates/oidc-authn-config.yaml # _cluster.oidc-realm-name: my"realm
url: https://keycloak.example.org/realms/my"realm
message: "user is not a member of any tenant-foo-{view,use,admin,super-admin} group in the my"realm realm — ..."
$ python3 -c 'import yaml; yaml.safe_load(open("inner.yaml"))'
PARSE ERROR: while parsing a block mapping
The chart renders green and the Secret is written; the tenant kube-apiserver then refuses the config it mounts, so tenant authentication is down and the cause is a values field several layers away. / in a name is the milder version of the same thing: it silently adds a path segment to six URLs.
One charset constraint beside the type check closes both paths, and it cannot fire on an existing cluster, whose realm is cozy.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 1503881. Added a content check after the type check: regexMatch "^[a-zA-Z0-9][a-zA-Z0-9._-]*$", failing with a message that names the offending value. The realm is spliced verbatim into URL path segments and the hook shell token, so a / or a space now fails at the source instead of splitting a URL or the script. Tests: rejects a realm name with a path separator and rejects a realm name with a space.

[MINOR] two prose surfaces the doc pass missed
The bullet's first clause was updated in round 2; the sentence after it still reads "Authenticates the users already in cozy (the realm cozystack ships with). Zero-config default."
packages/extra/monitoring was not touched at all, and the generated artifacts fed by its values.yaml carry the old wording with it:
$ grep -rln 'trust the platform `cozy` realm' . | grep -v '^./.git/'
packages/system/monitoring-rd/cozyrds/monitoring.yaml
packages/extra/monitoring/README.md
packages/extra/monitoring/values.schema.json
packages/extra/monitoring/values.yaml
api/apps/v1alpha1/kubernetes/types.go
The first four are internally consistent, so the generator drift check will never ask for them: only a reader will notice. packages/system/monitoring-rd/cozyrds/monitoring.yaml is the text the dashboard renders to a tenant creating a monitoring instance, so it tells them the realm is fixed while the operator has renamed it. The fifth file is the pre-commit finding above.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 1503881. The System-mode bullet in docs/oidc-tenant.md no longer states cozy as fixed — it reads "the platform Keycloak realm (cozy by default, set via authentication.oidc.realmName)" and "the users already in that realm (the one cozystack provisions)". Reflowed to a single line per the prose rule.

[MINOR] the release note does not mention the changed default
The release-note block in the PR description covers authentication.oidc.realmName, but not that authentication.oidc.keycloakInternalUrl's default moved from the literal in-cluster URL to null.
The rendered output is unchanged for anyone on defaults, which is why it is a note rather than a finding about behaviour. But the published default is part of the contract: someone reading values.yaml on a new release sees null where the last release showed a URL. The previous move of this exact default earned its own entry in docs/changelogs/v1.6.0.md:113.
One sentence in the release note, saying the default is now derived from realmName and that an explicit value and "" keep their meanings, is enough.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed. The release note now calls out the default change: authentication.oidc.keycloakInternalUrl moved from the literal in-cluster URL to null (which derives .../realms/<realmName>), noting that unset renders the identical URL as before and "" still selects external OIDC discovery.

Reject non-string keycloakInternalUrl values.
A boolean or number reaches quote and becomes a non-empty _cluster.keycloak-internal-url value. Downstream gatekeepers then enable --skip-oidc-discovery and form endpoints such as false/protocol/openid-connect/token, so OIDC login fails. Reject non-string explicit values while preserving null and "".

Verdict
LGTM with non-blocking notes
Round 4, and every blocker from my earlier rounds is shut. I checked each against the code rather than taking the reply for it: the hook Job reads the configured realm and single-quotes it, the type guard fires before any default can swallow a falsy value, the charset guard turns away a quote, a space and a slash, and the generator is back in sync. Reverting the realm in either gatekeeper's external-discovery branch now reddens its suite. What's left is small.

Still open from my earlier rounds
- The doc drift above, filed in round 2 as "the doc pass stopped short of the generated surfaces". The reply named the
kubernetespackage anddocs/oidc-tenant.md, and both are genuinely fixed. Monitoring was never in the pass. Two separate passes landed on it again this round.
Withdrawn
I filed the realm mismatch between a custom realmName and an explicit keycloakInternalUrl as a MINOR in round 2. Your reply holds, so I'm dropping it. An explicit URL naming a different realm than the browser-facing issuer predates this PR: #3289 pinned exactly that with "honors an operator override pointing at a non-standard keycloak placement", which sets /realms/other while the realm stays cozy. A hard fail on the pair would break that test. Not something this PR should grow.
Checked and correct
The default render is byte-identical. The cozystack-values Secret gains one key, oidc-realm-name: "cozy", and the derived internal URL reproduces the old literal exactly. All seven touched suites pass, make generate leaves no diff, and outside tests and changelogs nothing in the tree still carries realms/cozy, vendored charts included.
One thing I'm explicitly not asking for: the hook-delete-policy: hook-succeeded on the update-email Job. That policy only deletes on success, removing a failed Job would need hook-failed, and the line is unchanged from main anyway.
Recommended follow-up
Worth one live install on a non-default realm before anyone leans on this. Nothing static proves the operator provisions clients, scopes and tenant groups into a renamed realm.
Findings not anchored to changed lines
These reference code outside this PR's diff (unchanged files, or lines outside a hunk), so GitHub cannot render them inline.
[MINOR] packages/extra/monitoring/values.yaml:215 the Monitoring oidc.mode description still hardcodes cozy
Carried from my round 2 finding about the generated surfaces. The reply named packages/apps/kubernetes and docs/oidc-tenant.md, and both are genuinely fixed. The parallel Monitoring sentence was never in the pass:
$ grep -c 'trust the platform `cozy` realm' packages/extra/monitoring/values.yaml packages/extra/monitoring/README.md packages/extra/monitoring/values.schema.json packages/system/monitoring-rd/cozyrds/monitoring.yaml
packages/extra/monitoring/README.md:1
packages/extra/monitoring/values.yaml:1
packages/extra/monitoring/values.schema.json:1
packages/system/monitoring-rd/cozyrds/monitoring.yaml:1
packages/extra/monitoring/values.yaml:215 is the @field source; cozyvalues-gen copies it into the schema, the README and the monitoring-rd cozyrd, which is the text a tenant reads in the dashboard. The result is that kubernetes-rd now says "the platform Keycloak realm (cozy by default)" and monitoring-rd still says the realm is cozy, for the same feature, in the same UI.
Editing the @field line and re-running the generator for that package covers all four.

[MINOR] the charset guard admits master, Keycloak's reserved admin realm
^[a-zA-Z0-9][a-zA-Z0-9._-]*$ accepts master, which is the one realm name Keycloak reserves for itself. Against a copy of the chart, with a throwaway suite that sets authentication.oidc.realmName: master and asserts both rendered keys:
$ helm unittest --file tests/zz_master_probe_test.yaml .
PASS probe master realm tests/zz_master_probe_test.yaml
Tests: 1 passed, 1 total
It renders oidc-realm-name: "master" and keycloak-internal-url: "http://keycloak-http.cozy-keycloak.svc:8080/realms/master".
That value reaches ClusterKeycloakRealm.spec.realmName in packages/system/keycloak-configure/templates/configure-kk.yaml:29. At the operator commit this repo pins (COMMIT_REF=facbc36 in packages/system/keycloak-operator/images/keycloak-operator/Dockerfile), the realm chain reads the realm first and returns early when it already exists, and the next link applies the CR's session, login, theme, SMTP and user-profile settings to whatever realm that names. The groups and kubernetes-client scopes, the kubernetes public client and the cozystack-cluster-admin group are then created inside it, and the update-email hook enables UPDATE_EMAIL on it.
So realmName: master does not fail, it reconfigures Keycloak's own admin realm. You added this guard precisely to reject names that are unsafe further down, and one more clause excluding master closes the worst of them.

[MINOR] the realmName: null fallback branch is not covered by any test
The tri-state is documented at length in the comment above this line, but nothing exercises the null arm. Against a copy of the chart, replacing kindIs "invalid" $realmName with false:
$ helm unittest . # baseline
Test Suites: 41 passed, 41 total
Tests: 182 passed, 182 total
$ # mutate: {{- if kindIs "invalid" $realmName }} -> {{- if false }}
$ helm unittest .
Test Suites: 41 passed, 41 total
Tests: 182 passed, 182 total
Nothing moves, because values.yaml ships the string "cozy" and every fixture either takes that default or sets a string. The branch itself is live and correct today: a probe suite setting authentication.oidc.realmName: null renders oidc-realm-name: "cozy" and passes. It is simply the one reversion in this change that no test catches; the others I tried, including the derived internal URL, both guards and the realm threading in the consumer templates, each reddened their suite.
That also makes the PR body's "mutation-verified" a shade stronger than the suites currently are. A realmName: null case in packages/core/platform/tests/apps_oidc_realm_name_test.yaml closes it.

[NIT] an explicit keycloakInternalUrl: null quietly changes meaning on upgrade
Before this change the template was {{ .Values.authentication.oidc.keycloakInternalUrl | quote }}, and sprig's quote renders a nil as an empty value, so an operator who reset the field with null got the same result as "": every consumer's index ... | default "" took the external-discovery branch. Reproduced on a two-line chart carrying the old expression:
$ helm template p . --set-json 'keycloakInternalUrl=null'
data:
old:
$ helm template p .
data:
old: "http://keycloak-http.cozy-keycloak.svc:8080/realms/cozy"
After this change null derives http://keycloak-http.cozy-keycloak.svc:8080/realms/<realm>, which is non-empty, so the dashboard and linstor-gui gatekeepers flip to --skip-oidc-discovery with in-cluster redeem/jwks/userinfo URLs. Someone whose Keycloak is not at the standard in-cluster address and who spelled the reset as null rather than "" loses dashboard login on upgrade.
Narrow, since "" was always the documented spelling and is preserved and tested. But the release note says a cluster that leaves the value unset renders as before, and this is the one spelling where that is not true, so it is worth a clause there.

The realm name "cozy" was hardcoded in keycloak-configure (which owns the realm, its clients and the cozystack-cluster-admin roles), in the dashboard and linstor-gui gatekeepers, in the info kubeconfig, and in the Grafana and managed-Kubernetes apiserver OIDC issuers. Operators could not rename the realm without patching vendored templates, which `make update` reverts. The apiserver OIDC issuer is already configurable via talm oidcIssuerUrl, so pointing it at a custom realm left every SSO component on "cozy" and broke login with an issuer mismatch. authentication.oidc.realmName (default "cozy") now rides the _cluster channel so every consumer resolves the same realm, and the default keycloakInternalUrl is derived from it so the realm is named in one place. Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Alexey Artamonov <[email protected]>
The enable-update-email hook Job in keycloak-configure still pinned REALM=cozy, so on a custom realmName it waited on a realm the chart never provisions and the cold install timed out — the one seventh consumer left behind, and the only value nobody could set without breaking the install. A bare-integer or YAML-reserved realm name reached the printf %s that builds the derived keycloakInternalUrl as a Go int, rendering a "%!s(...)" format error into the URL; coerce the name to a string once at the source. Document that renaming the realm on a running cluster provisions a fresh empty realm and orphans the accounts in the old one, and note in the OIDC tenant and grafana guides that the realm name is now the configurable default. info/Makefile carried NAME=etcd, so cozyhr drove the wrong release from that package; correct it while touching the file. Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Alexey Artamonov <[email protected]>
The claimValidationRules message in the System-mode AuthenticationConfiguration hardcoded "in the cozy realm", so on a renamed realm it told a rejected user to look in a realm that no longer exists. Build it from the same realm the issuer uses (toString-guarded, as the derived issuer URL already is). Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Alexey Artamonov <[email protected]>
… realm A realmName that YAML resolves to an int or a bool (a bare 123, or a reserved word like on/off) was coerced with toString, silently renaming the realm to something the operator never typed (on -> "true"). Fail the render with a quoting hint at the source instead of surfacing it later as a broken issuer URL. The update-email hook Job interpolated the realm into its shell script unquoted, so a name carrying a space or a shell metacharacter could break or inject into the script; single-quote it. The Grafana and managed-cluster issuer helpers build the URL with printf %s straight off the channel value, so guard them with toString for the same non-string reason. Name the configured realm in the tenant kube-apiserver oidc.mode description and the Grafana identity-mode comment, which still read cozy as if it were fixed. Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Alexey Artamonov <[email protected]>
…tes artifacts The realm-name guard checked only the type and echoed the parsed value back, so its hint told an operator who wrote `on` to set realmName: "true" — the token YAML had already discarded. Drop the echo and add a slug-charset check: the name is spliced verbatim into URL path segments and a shell token, so a "/" or a space must be rejected at the source rather than split a URL or the hook script downstream. The description edit in the previous commit was hand-applied to the generated kubernetes README and never reached the Go types, leaving pre-commit red; regenerate both with cozyvalues-gen. Finish the oidc-tenant System-mode prose that still read cozy as a fixed name. Assisted-by: LLM Signed-off-by: Alexey Artamonov <[email protected]>
realmName resolved through `| default "cozy"`, which fires on both null and "". Unset (null) legitimately means the default, but an explicit "" is a meaningless value and coercing it hid the mistake. Split the two: null falls back to cozy, an empty string reaches the charset guard and is rejected — the same null-vs-"" distinction keycloakInternalUrl already draws a few lines below. What this PR does
Fixes #4216. The Keycloak realm name
cozywas hardcoded across every SSO component, so operators could not rename the realm without patching vendored templates thatmake updatereverts. The kube-apiserver OIDC issuer is already configurable out-of-band via talmoidcIssuerUrl, which made the mismatch worse: pointing the apiserver at a custom realm left the dashboard, linstor-gui and the generated kubeconfig oncozy, so SSO broke with an issuer mismatch.This adds a single
authentication.oidc.realmName(defaultcozy) to the platform Package values and threads it through the_clusterchannel so every consumer resolves the same realm: keycloak-configure (realm, clients andcozystack-cluster-adminroles), the dashboard and linstor-gui gatekeepers (issuer/login/logout URLs), the info kubeconfig, and — beyond the components listed in the issue — the Grafana and managed-Kubernetes apiserver OIDC issuers, which carried the same hardcoded/realms/cozyin their_helpers.tpland would otherwise have left SSO half-broken.keycloakInternalUrlis now derived fromrealmNamewhen left unset, so the realm is named in one place. Its default changed from the literal in-cluster URL tonullwith a documented tri-state:nullderiveshttp://keycloak-http.cozy-keycloak.svc:8080/realms/<realmName>;""keeps the existing escape hatch that restores external OIDC discovery; any explicit value is used verbatim. A stock cluster renders the byte-identicalkeycloak-internal-urlit did before, so existing clusters are unaffected on upgrade.The Kubernetes CR object names (
keycloakrealm-cozy,keycloak-cozy) and therealmRefthat clients point at are internal resource names, not the realm's technical name, and stay fixed — the EDP operator resolves clients into the renamed realm through the unchangedrealmRef.Covered by helm-unittest across all seven affected packages, written test-first (red → green, mutation-verified): default stays
cozy, a custom realm reaches every URL, the derived internal URL followsrealmName, the""escape hatch survives a custom realm, and a numeric/reserved realm name stays a string.packages/extra/infohad no unit-test target, so one was added.Downstream repositories
