yrahman82 NOT LGTM, because of one wrong claim in the template comment and the commit message. The feature itself is fine. Other apps already size components separately (Harbor, ClickHouse), the default keeps today's render, make generate with cozyvalues-gen v1.7.0 leaves no diff, and helm unittest passes.
The claim is that a typed client sends sentinel.resources: {}. It sends zero quantities instead, details inline. Top-level resources has the same zero-quantity problem on main, so this is not a regression and I'm not asking you to fix it here. But the commit message lands in main as is, so the reason in it has to be true. Matching the top-level resources: {} behaviour is reason enough. Please keep that part and drop the typed-client part, in the comment and in the commit body.
Minor, in the PR description: the new suite has 10 cases, not 9, and I get 58 tests, not 57.

This part doesn't hold. resource.Quantity is a struct, and omitempty never omits a struct. On this branch json.Marshal(redis.ConfigSpec{}) gives "sentinel":{"resources":{"cpu":"0","memory":"0"}}, so a typed client takes the sentinel.resources branch with zero quantities. The empty-map rule is fine as a mirror of top-level resources: {}. Only the typed-client reason should go.

Agreed, thanks for checking with json.Marshal — resource.Quantity is a struct, so a typed client sends zero quantities, not {}. Fixed in 8580a9d: the typed-client reason is removed from this template comment, the test comment and the commit body. What remains is the true reason: an empty sentinel.resources counts as unset to mirror the top-level resources: {} rule.
Every Sentinel pod gets the Redis pods' resources, so the three Sentinels of an instance reserve three times a Redis replica's memory while holding only their configuration and the failover state. On a t1.nano instance that is 3 x 128Mi while the VPA recommender's uncapped target for a Sentinel container is 16Mi, and the waste grows with every larger preset, because the dataset that drives the Redis sizing never reaches a Sentinel. sentinel.resources and sentinel.resourcesPreset follow the convention of the top-level pair, and sentinel.resourcesPreset falls back to resourcesPreset. Explicit Redis resources are not carried over once the sentinel block sets either key, since they were sized for the dataset. An empty sentinel.resources map counts as unset, as an empty top-level resources does. An empty sentinel block keeps today's sizing, so existing instances render unchanged and an upgrade does not roll their Sentinels. The Sentinel WorkloadMonitor reports the preset the Sentinels actually use. Signed-off-by: Yasar Rahman <[email protected]> Assisted-by: LLM

yrahman82 LGTM. The typed-client reason is gone from the template comment, the test comment and the commit body, and the rest of the commit is unchanged. The description counts are right now. helm unittest in packages/apps/redis gives 58 passed on a trial merge with current main.
What this PR does
The Redis application renders
spec.sentinel.resourcesfrom the sameresources/resourcesPresetpair as the Redis pods. Every instance runs three Sentinels, so it reserves three extra copies of a Redis replica's memory for processes that hold only their configuration and the failover state. The dataset that drives the Redis sizing never reaches a Sentinel. On our Cozystack v1.6.4 staging cluster, an HA Redis on
t1.nanoreserves 3 x 128Mi for its Sentinels. The VPA recommender (recommendation mode only) gives an uncapped target of 16Mi for thesentinelcontainer. On au1.smallinstance the same three Sentinels would reserve 3 x 4Gi.This PR adds an optional
sentinelblock with the same two keys the top level has:Resolution rules:
sentinelempty (the default): the Sentinels keep the Redis sizing (resources+resourcesPreset). Existing instances therefore render exactly as before and an upgrade does not roll their Sentinels.sentinel.resourcesPresetset: the Sentinels use that preset. Explicit top-levelresourcesare not carried over, since they were sized for the dataset.sentinel.resourcesset: it wins. Any key it leaves out is filled fromsentinel.resourcesPreset, which falls back toresourcesPreset.WorkloadMonitorlabelworkloads.cozystack.io/resource-presetnow carries the preset the Sentinels actually use. The RedisWorkloadMonitoris unchanged.Changes:
values.yaml: newSentinel parameterssection (@typedef Sentinel,@param {Sentinel} [sentinel], default{}), reusing the existingResourcesandResourcesPresettypes so the enum and quantity validation is the same as the top-level pair.templates/redisfailover.yaml: computes the Sentinel preset and resources once and uses them forspec.sentinel.resourcesand the SentinelWorkloadMonitorlabel.README.md: generated table rows plus a short hand-writtensentinelsection next toresources and resourcesPreset.values.schema.json,api/apps/v1alpha1/redis/types.go(newSentinelstruct,ConfigSpec.Sentinel),api/apps/v1alpha1/redis/zz_generated.deepcopy.go,packages/system/redis-rd/cozyrds/redis.yaml.tests/sentinel_resources_test.yaml: 10 helm-unittest cases covering the rules above and an unknown preset being refused.I chose not to change the default sizing. A smaller default (for example a fixed small preset for Sentinel) would save more for everyone, but it would also roll every instance's Sentinels and change what tenants are billed for on upgrade. If maintainers prefer that, it is a one-line follow-up on top of this change.
Testing done:
make generateinpackages/apps/rediswith cozyvalues-gen v1.7.0 (the versionpre-commit.ymlinstalls); regenerated files committed.controller-gen objectv0.16.4 onapi/apps/v1alpha1(the last step ofhack/update-codegen.sh), only the redis package changed;go build ./...andgo vet ./redis/pass in that module,go mod tidyleaves no diff. I could not run the full rootmake generateon my machine: code-generator v0.37.1 fails to parse the Go 1.27.1 standard library (math/rand/v2: method must have no type parameters), which is a host toolchain problem unrelated to this change. CI'scodegen-driftjob should confirm.make testinpackages/apps/redis(helm-unittest v1.1.2): 58 passed. With the template change reverted, 4 of the new cases fail (the ones that setsentinel.*); the cases that pin today's behaviour pass both ways.sentinelblock is identical tomain(all documents except the random-password Secret) for the defaults,resourcesPreset=u1.small, and explicitresources(cpu 1, memory 2Gi).Backwards compatibility: purely additive. The field is optional with an empty default, existing instances render unchanged, and nothing rolls on upgrade. Clients that do not know the field are unaffected.

Trigger map walked against the diff: this adds a field to
values.schema.json, socozystack/terraform-provider-cozystackneeds to modelsentinel.resources/sentinel.resourcesPresetin its Redis resource. I will open that issue once this PR has a number and link it here; a draft is inFOLLOWUP-terraform-provider-redis-sentinel.md. The website page forredisis regenerated fromREADME.mdby the release bot (redisis in the websiteAPPSlist), so no manual follow-up there. Nothing else in the map is touched.Release note
