    This might have the same root cause as the browser-related issues #6582, #6584, or it might be a similar fd-tracking issue.

    To check, have you restarted Flatpak's various systemd services since applying the 1.16.5 update?

    The easiest way to confirm that this has been done would be to reboot the whole system.

    I can reproduce this. It's because openh264 has an extra-data helper that is statically linked, and runs without a runtime (empty/no /usr).

    @paddylandau

    I confirm that I get this. I found out because, when updating flatpak, I get a slightly different error:

    $ flatpak update
    Looking for updates…

            ID                                           Branch           Op           Remote            Download

    Warning: Error deploying: While trying to apply extra data: Failed to open runtime files: Bad address
    Installation complete.

    Installing VLC also gives that problem, because VLC depends on openh264.

    (I have restarted my computer.)

    This should be fixed in 1.16.6 (and 1.17.6 for development-branch users).

    Thank you. My flatpak version is currently 1.16.4. I need to wait for the flatpak PPA to be updated.

    I'll probably update the PPA after 1.16.6 is released (it takes A While to do builds for all the Ubuntu versions, and might not happen until tomorrow at this point). If the 1.16.6 release gets delayed for whatever reason, there's a 1.16.5-and-a-half release in Debian which can be backported into the PPAs, but I'm not going to spend the time to update and test that if 1.16.6 is imminent anyway.

    For awareness, 1.16.6 has now been release by Arch - was able to update successfully once completed.

    I can confirm that it has updated and is working on Ubuntu as well. Thank you to the devs!
