I said this on the Flutter forum earlier, but adding support for OpenGL would bring a whole new audience to Flutter - i think about those developers working with Adobe Air to write games for iOS and Android. Flutter could be a great cross platform development environment for games. The current canvas API is nice for little games but we need to get closer to the metal for more advanced use cases :) Thanks for keeping this under consideration.

Thanks very much for the report! This isn't on the roadmap right now. It would be cool to see this one day, but it's not something we're taking action on.
It seems unanimous the desire for more robust support for solutions like OpenGL. Now that Flutter is up(hype*), it would be the right time to give this gift to the community.
Flutter rendering is limited for some things like #46841 a simple 2D rendering with lots of particles. Flutter uses only one thread for this. While WebGL clearly uses all threads of the GPU and delivers a unique experience.
Stirring this up a bit as it is the one point many teams disregard flutter for. GPU rendering and connection to underlying OpenGL should be something present in 2020 for a mobile framework, legendary game engines like Phaser can't port to Flutter because of this. We could do so much more as AR/Games are an integral part of modern development tropes.

Reality is harsh. The best things have to wait a dozen years. Honestly, from 2012 year perspective, current state of htm5 frameworks like Phaser was to be reached back in 2015. You should ask Rich why it took 8 years and not 3 to achieve all that. Things are much more difficult than we project. Be patient.
My comment was just an attempt to bump this thread and to show that there is community and devs that believe in this framework (as I have also tried everything else, and find that Flutter truly has potential). If it came out judgmental I apologize this was not my goal. I follow Rich from his AS3/Flash days and I know first hand why things take time (you can't predict all of use cases, platform bugs, new tech emerging and stabilizing). Its all a work in process, and I sure hope Flutter to continue on this path in order to provide us with more tools to build engaging, performant and good looking mobile (and not only) experiences.
please give us the bindings. I think they are afraid that we will use low
level things, and completely circumvent flutter. and create another
ecosystem on top of it.
Will this openGLES binding be ever available or is it that flutter team trying for vulkan ? Because i see iOS has stopped support for openGLES and using METAL framework, which under the hood is vulkan. Need some update from flutter team, regarding openGLES or vulkan api implementation in flutter.

Internally Flutter uses OpenGL to draw, but we don't currently expose OpenGL to authors. Instead, we expose a 2D drawing API via the

Are there plans to expose it?

It's something we want to implement in the long term, but we don't have any plans to expose it in the near term.

There are GL bindings for Dart available via dart's dart-ext: native extension mechanism:
https://github.com/google/dart-gl
Flutter's engine doesn't yet support dart-ext:, but we have a bug on file about adding such #2396.

If you implement it, I'll make pixi.js port for flutter.

We can reopen later.
Thanks for checking out Flutter!

I'm very interested in this. We use Flutter at work and making 3D visualizations/games would be a good addition to our projects.

Some bindings for google filament, webassembly/typescript would be really nice.

This also looks hugely promising for the webgl/browser front (ie flutter web)
