flutter clean seems to "break off" visually in terminal (PS), unknown if all clean tasks are run. #192531

Closed

Description

@RoarGronmo

Steps to reproduce

  1. Do some build operations
  2. You feel that the build caches may be clogged (builds take long time)
  3. Do a flutter clean

-> Flutter clean starts, but stops after a few seconds, and the spinner seem to have stopped in the middle of the spin.

Image

Expected results

I want the clean process to spin, and give me feedback on what has been cleaned up.

Actual results

Unknown clean state

    @suryaKommana2662

    @RoarGronmo Thanks for the report. I was able to reproduce the reported terminal behavior on macOS 26.4 using Flutter 3.48.0-0.4.pre. Running flutter clean produced the following terminal output:

    suryakommana@SuryaKommanas-MacBook-Pro my_flutter_app % flutter clean
    Cleaning Xcode workspace...                                        462ms
    Cleaning Xcode workspace...                                        432ms
    Deleting build...                                                      ⣯%

    suryakommana@SuryaKommanas-MacBook-Pro my_flutter_app % echo "exit code: $?"
    exit code: 0

    suryakommana@SuryaKommanas-MacBook-Pro my_flutter_app % ls -ld build .dart_tool
    ls: .dart_tool: No such file or directory
    ls: build: No such file or directory

    The command returned to the shell prompt after displaying Deleting build... ⣯% without showing a completion message. However, the command completed successfully with exit code 0, and both the build and .dart_tool directories were removed. This suggests that the clean operation itself completes successfully, while the progress spinner/terminal output may stop updating before the command finishes. Routing to the team-tool for the further investigation.
