[Desktop] - Splash screen or background color customization #41980

Description

@bleroux

Internal: b/233627067

Use case

For desktop support, it would be nice to have an easy way to configure a splash screen or a window background color (visible before Flutter first frame is rendered).

Proposal

Add properties in c++ code (win32_flutter_window.cc, flutter_glfw.cc, etc) or in a configuration file to make this customizable on desktop launchers.

Launching Flutter on desktop is in early stage and is moving fast so feel free to close this feature request if it is too soon to ask for this.

    Deduped with #82538 filed by @jonbhanson.

    Documentation will need to be added once we've decided on the approach to take with this:
    Page URL: https://flutter.dev/docs/development/ui/advanced/splash-screen.html
    Page source: https://github.com/flutter/website/tree/master/src/docs/development/ui/advanced/splash-screen.md

    He's also filed How to add splash screen in Flutter Desktop on StackOverflow, which should be provided with an answer and also links back to the above docs once they're updated.

    From an internal discussion:

    For macOS you can try setting popover.contentViewController to some image before constructing FlutterViewController, then setting contentViewController back once Flutter is ready: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/appkit/nspopover/1526794-contentviewcontroller

    It's not 100% clear to me what the best way for us to determine "when flutter is ready" but we do have the root-isolate create callback that I'd added years ago as a sneaky way of performing native function registration for unit tests before we had dart:ffi, and which could easily serve that purpose.

    The triaged-desktop label is irrelevant if there is no team-desktop label or fyi-desktop label.
