Steps to Reproduce

  1. Update your Mac to Big Sur
  2. Run flutter create bug
  3. Run flutter run --release and select macos as target

Actual results:

    When I open macos\Runner.xcodeproj in Xcode and hit the run button, the app runs.
    It also runs when I start the app from IntelliJ IDEA.

    I can reproduce this on Catalina (10.15.7) with XCode 12.2. Release builds fail but debug builds are building on flutter dev channel.

    $ flutter build macos --release

    This is a duplicate of #69221. Xcode 12 and up won't be able to build for macOS with ONLY_ACTIVE_ARCH=NO (profile and release, by default).

    Actually, reopening. From flutter build we can force the valid archs to x86_64 until #69221 is done.

    PR at #70649 will "fix" flutter build mac --release by excluding ARM as a valid architecture. It will still fail with the same error when running in release/archiving in Xcode 12+.

    I wanted to create a MacOS build with Flutter master channel and upload the archive with xCode.
    Everything worked as expected but I got below errors from Apple so the archive was rejected.

    @jmagman , should I create a new ticket or is this related to this issue ?

    ITMS-90332: Invalid Symbolic Link - The symbolic link 'com.example.ios.pkg/Payload/example.app/Contents/Frameworks/FlutterMacOS.framework/Headers' resolves to an invalid location. Make sure that the symbolic link does not resolve to itself, and that the location exists and is contained within the app bundle.
