Repro:

    BigtableDataSettings settings = BigtableDataSettings.newBuilder()
        .setProjectId(PROJECT_ID)
        .setInstanceId(INSTANCE_ID)
        .setRefreshingChannel(true)
        .build();

    BigtableDataClientFactory f = BigtableDataClientFactory
        .create(settings);

    f.createDefault();
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: refreshingChannel only works with InstantiatingGrpcChannelProviders
