# Clone the repo
git clone https://github.com/iheanyi/rippr.git
cd rippr
# Install dependencies
npm install
# Bundle Python with yt-dlp (one-time setup)
npm run bundle-python
# Download ffmpeg binaries for bundling
npm run bundle-ffmpeg
# Run in development
npm run tauri dev
# Fast release compile without installer packaging
npm run build:fast
# Build a portable Windows ZIP without installer packaging
npm run build:portable
# Build platform installers
npm run build:installers
# Build installers and the portable ZIP
npm run build:releaseNote: Release builds are fully self-contained - Python, yt-dlp, and ffmpeg are all bundled.
The bundle-python and bundle-ffmpeg commands run native PowerShell scripts on Windows, so WSL is not required.
bundle-python and bundle-ffmpeg reuse existing assets on repeat builds. Set RIPPR_UPDATE_YTDLP=1 to refresh yt-dlp or RIPPR_FORCE_FFMPEG=1 to refresh ffmpeg. Windows and Linux builds download LGPL-flavored ffmpeg binaries; those generated binaries are intentionally not committed to the repository.
On Windows, build:portable is the fastest way to create a portable ZIP for testing because it skips MSI and NSIS installer packaging. build:release still creates installers and a portable ZIP at src-tauri/target/release/bundle/portable/Rippr_<version>_<arch>-portable.zip. Users can unzip it and run rippr.exe without installing.
