Kernel does not bootup from external nvme drive #1461
Currently I am running this kernel on PopOS from an external nvme drive. When the drive mounts as an nvme drive I get an initramfs error mentioning that the UUID for the root partition does not exist. I do not get this error when using the generic kernel provided by PopOS. If the drive mounts as sda, the surface kernel successfully boots up with no issues.
Environment
Hardware model: Surface Studio Laptop 2
Kernel version: 6.8.8-surface-1
Distribution: PopOS (Debian)
dmesg.log - when successfully booting into generic kernel
Hi @qzed ,
By any chance, have you ever seen this issue? I was wondering if it may have something to do with the BIOS firmware of the SLS2. Again, the weird thing is that this issue is not seen with the generic PopOS kernel. The issue is only seen when using the surface kernel. With the main issue being that when the initramfs error comes up. I can see that the external drive has not been mounted when checking /dev/

Somewhat sounds like the kernel is missing one of the drivers during boot that allows the drive to work. Meaning the driver is probably built as module and not inside the kernel itself. You could try to figure out which driver it is and then add it to the initramfs.
