Power button shuts down device regardless of setting #647

Description

@borchardt

Power button shuts down device regardless of power button action setting.

Crossposting from https://www.reddit.com/r/gnome/comments/qvqp1w/power_button_shuts_down_laptop_regardless_of/ for visibility. I ran into the same issue after a recent system update. I think that this update probably bumped me to Gnome 41, though I'm not sure which version I was using before the update.

This issue is resolved by changing chassis type from vm to laptop with hostnamectl chassis laptop. Is this something that could/should be set by default in the Surface kernel? If not, feel free to close this issue.

Environment

  • Hardware model: Surface Go 2
  • Kernel version: 5.14.16-arch1-2-surface
  • Distribution: Arch Linux

    Not sure how hostnamctl works, but I'd have assumed it uses DMI information. Apparently it doesn't: I also get vm when I run hostnamectl chassis, but using dmidecode -s chassis-type I get Laptop. Not sure what other methods there are to determine the chassis type, but since dmidecode works and that directly provides info from UEFI/firmware, it's either some config thing or an issue in systemd/hostnamectl.

    Thats probably systemd/systemd#21468
