This has been happening for me as long as I can remember - actb told me on github that I should maybe report it 馃槄

I cannot pinpoint this behaviour to any specific code base.

Popup with autoimport appears, I select an entry, no import is added to the file. The following error in the extension host logs:

The selected entry should be imported.
(Sorry for my brevity - I'm on vacation, got a flight to catch tomorrow and it's already late at night - those timestamps show my home timezone, not my current timezone. Still wanted to file this Issue before I forget about it.)

Do you still see the same assertion failures if you use the nightly JS/TS extension? https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=ms-vscode.vscode-typescript-next
And if so, would you be able to provide any small reproduction of the code that causes this?

A repro would be great; sharing what export this was happening on might be enough if it鈥檚 from a library I can install.

I've just checked with the nightly extension - unfortunately it still occurs with that.
For a reproduction, I have encountered this in multiple repositories, but one where it occurs if open source, so I guess let's take that. It's not "minimal", but I honestly wouldn't know where I would start to create a minimal reproduction for this.
I just did a clean checkout of the repo and these steps and the problem still occurs for me:
yarn installpackages/toolkit/src/tests/createAsyncThunk.typetest.tsconfigureStorein line 17 (from "@reduxjs/toolkit")As a sidenote: I am using NixOS, so a slightly patched version of VSCode. I don't think how that would cause this though - and I'm pretty sure I've encountered this on my Windows machine as well. That one is just on another continent right now, so I can't verify that part 馃槄
