VS Code opening duplicate window with remote debugging and live reloading #3185

Closed

Description

Environment data

  • PTVSD version: Release & Master
  • OS and version: Windows
  • Python version (& distribution if applicable, e.g. Anaconda): N/A
  • Using VS Code or Visual Studio: VSC

Actual behavior

Duplicate editor window opens up (with live reloading and remote debugging)

Expected behavior

Should not open a duplicate folder.
This is a regression.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open VSC
  2. Create a file named xyz.py with a simple loop.
import time

for i in range(10):
	print(i)
	time.sleep(1)
  1. Start the python program as follows:
    python -m ptvsd --wait --host localhost --port 5678 xyz.py
  2. Add a breakpoint in xyz.py
  3. Attach to the above program in VSC (same instance of VSC)
  4. VSC opens a duplicate window

    Cause:

    The default debug config in launch.json for Attach does not have the pathMappings. These are populated by the extension and passed to PTVSD.
    At that point, the drive letter is in lower case, hence none of the path mappings work.

    I've not been able to repro this exact issue. The nearest issue I've encountered is that breakpoints are not respected when no localRoot or remoteRoot are supplied in launch.json.

    Remote debugging with lower case drive letter in path mappings.

    @omartin2010

    I'm having this issue with Docker (didn't try outside of Docker, my workflow for now doesn't require it), easy repro. If I used c:\Users... as a root versus C:\users for example, it just works.

    Closing as the upstream issue has been resolved.
