»Federation Shares« usage in docs instead of »Federated share« #214

Description

@jancborchardt

Check https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/10/user_manual/files/federated_cloud_sharing.html

@schiessle @jospoortvliet shouldn’t it be »Using Federated Shares« instead of »Using Federation Shares«? We should keep the wording consistent.

Today 90% of the user and admin guides reference federatION and the admin manual currently starts out with this paragraph:

Federated Cloud Sharing is now managed by the Federation app (9.0+), and is now called Federation sharing. When you enable the Federation app you can easily and securely link file shares between Nextcloud servers, in effect creating a cloud of Nextclouds.

(Aside: I just submitted #10425 to remove the reference to the ancient app renaming in the opening sentence)

And marketing appears to have covered all their bases by using both in the same document for the feature: https://nextcloud.com/federation/

Sharing files across Nextcloud servers is as easy as sending an email from a Gmail address to a Yahoo account! Instead of an email address, you use a Federated Cloud ID.

    😆

    For what it's worth:

    • The main app is called Federation while the UI, well, it does says Federated hah
    • There are only a couple of references to FederatED in the manuals
    • "Nextcloud FederatION" dominates "Nextcloud FederatED" in google

Personally I don't think it matters but added consistency is always nice. It might make more sense to update the UI to say Federation and to remove the couple of remaining references to Federated in the manuals.

If someone else can weigh in with what NC officially wants this called these days I'll clean up the docs and/or the UI.

@joshtrichards thanks a lot! :) For reference, of course both are used cause federatION is a noun and federatED is an adjective. So:

    • "Federated Cloud ID" is correct
    • A share can only be a "federated share", not a "federation share"
    • Same for "federated sharing" – NOT "federation sharing"
    • The main app should indeed be called "Federation"

    Does that make sense? :)
