Instructions for upgrading the snap install are incomplete/misleading #8224

Description

@roerd

The instructions for upgrading snaps (in package_upgrade.rst) are incomplete resp. misleading because they only the commands sudo snap refresh nextcloud without mentioning channels.

Your Nextcloud installation from snap will usually be from a "channel" tied to a certain major version, so you will need to snap switch to change the channel to another major version first, e.g. if you're currenly on version 17, use sudo snap switch --channel=18 nextcloud to switch to version 18.

Also, the follow-up command mentioned to complete the upgrade, currently mentioned as sudo -u www-data php occ upgrade, should be sudo nextcloud.occ upgrade instead on a modern snap installation instead.

    We should consider just linking directly to the nextcloud-snap README since that's the most authoritative for the Snap, most extensive, contains important context, and it's actively maintained.

    This would reduce duplicate documentation efforts and provide a better reader (user) experience.

    Partially fixed. The incorrect sudo -u www-data php occ upgrade command is no longer in the doc. But admin_manual/maintenance/package_upgrade.rst lines 51-58 still only show snap refresh and snap revert with no mention of channels.

    Users on a pinned major-version channel who run snap refresh won't get a major version upgrade. They need to run sudo snap switch --channel=<version> nextcloud first. This step is absent from the docs.

    The snap wiki is linked at line 60 but it's easy to miss. Either add the channel-switching step explicitly, or make the wiki link more prominent with a clear note that it's the authoritative reference for major version upgrades.
