Mission 19 #158

Description

@Pilpin

Hello, my brother was stuck on mission 19, whatever he typed, including the right command flarigo & flarigo & flarigo & the mission was not a success, so we decided to have a look at the code and wonder why the check.sh file deletes the flarigo.pids file on line 8 when it is used later on line 14

https://github.com/phyver/GameShell/blob/master/missions/intermediate/05_background/check.sh

command="$(gettext 'flarigo')"

PIDS=$GSH_TMP/flarigo.pids

_check() {
    rm -f "$PIDS" # <-- here

    echo "$(gettext "Let's have a look:")"

    sleep 2

    if [ ! -f "$PIDS" ]
    then
        echo "$(gettext "Mmm... I didn't see anything.")"
        echo
        echo "$(gettext "NOTE: you need to make sure the pyrotechnician sees all the fireworks while he is waiting.")"
        return 1
    fi

Thanks for letting us know.

    As stated in the goal message, the pyrotechnician needs to see all the fireworks while he is waiting.
    That happens when your run the gsh check command.

    So, when he starts waiting, I remove any reference to previous flarigo commands, that's the rm you're asking about.
    Each flarigo.sh that is run will recreate $PIDS by adding its own pid to it when the firework explodes. The check command wait a few seconds and then counts the number of pids in $PIDS. It fails if there are less than 3.

    This mission is rather new, and it seems there still are some problems. The goal might no be clear enough: you actually need to run all the commands (flarigo and gsh check) at once, like in flarigo & flarigo & flarigo & gsh check.

    I'm still not sure what's the best way to explain all that, without giving to much info so that the player needs to think a little. Don't hesitate to tell me if you have any idea about that!

    I think what's problematic is having to add the gsh check call, up until mission 19 it's always used "outside" the mission itself.
    What do you think about adding a command pyrotechnician which description would be "ask the pyrotechnician to look at the sky" or something similar ?

    @mahirhiro

    I agree with @Pilpin, until now there was never a need to call gsh check so I think we should specify it in the description to either run it in the same command or give a more explicit hint.

    @erimpapova

    I provide my misleading thoughts, in order to help you form the mission's text in a way that will not lead to any of them.

    I was thinking

    • that I had to go to the Mountain, and fire them there, in order the fireworks to be able to be seen from far away (as they are described as small).
    • if there is a way to make the fireworks big (through options or by executing flarigo & flarigo &... because they appear on screen bigger in this way)
    • to use the xeyes command from the previous mission (thinking that those could be the eyes of the pyrotechnician - "Mmm... I didn't see anything")

    I hope this helps.

    Great Game by the way!!!
