Using the example from https://pythonhosted.org/pyqode.core/examples.html
and running it through pyinstaller like e.g. so:
pyinstaller --onefile main.py
and running the resulting program triggers a barely controllable number of editor windows to be opened. The same happened under Linux and Windows.
This is related to the backend. Not starting it by commenting
# editor.backend.start('server.py')
results in a otherwise normally working program.
