Nothing deep behind it — I was going down the uv command list and noticed build had no counterpart. Mostly a convenience, two parts:
Keep rproj.toml and DESCRIPTION in sync. Building today means rig proj export and committing the generated file, so there are two sources of truth that can drift. Generating DESCRIPTION into a staging copy and building there would leave the working tree alone.
Build one package in a monorepo — rig build --package mypkg
Projects do not need a DESCRIPTION file, hopefully.
It is currently unclear how exactly we'll use rproj.toml with packages. I think we'll just need to start doing it to get a better idea. I agree that we'll probably have rig build at some point, though.
I guess this could build a package. rig proj check could run R CMD check on a local package, and rig proj publish could publish it to CRAN/PPM or Posit Connect?
One thing missing from this new extended version is perhaps a rig build command?
