Python Fundamentals and Practice

A structured collection of Python exercises, programming fundamentals, small programs, and learning notes.

Overview

This repository documents my practical work with Python, from basic syntax to functions, data structures, exception handling, modules, and command-line programs.

The goal is to build a strong foundation in programming, problem-solving, and writing readable, maintainable code.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand Python syntax, variables, data types, and operators.
  • Practice conditional statements, loops, and functions.
  • Work with lists, tuples, dictionaries, and sets.
  • Handle errors and exceptions appropriately.
  • Understand modules, imports, and code organization.
  • Build small command-line programs.
  • Develop algorithmic thinking and debugging skills.
  • Progress toward data analysis and machine learning after mastering the fundamentals.

Each weekly folder contains exercises or programs related to the topics practiced during that period.

Topics Practiced

The repository includes work involving:

  • Variables, data types, and basic operations
  • Lists, indexing, loops, and range
  • Random number generation
  • Exception handling with try, except, and else
  • Command-line arguments
  • Working with third-party Python packages
  • Organizing code into modules
  • Preventing unintended execution when a module is imported

See the individual folders for the corresponding exercises and implementation details.

How to Run the Programs

  1. Install Python 3 from the official website: https://www.python.org/downloads/

  2. Clone the repository:

    git clone https://github.com/salikhussain71-code/python-fundamentals-and-practice.git
  3. Enter the repository directory:

    cd python-fundamentals-and-practice
  4. Open the relevant weekly folder and select a Python file.

  5. Run the program:

    python filename.py

Replace filename.py with the actual file name.

Some exercises may require additional packages. Check the relevant file or folder instructions before running them.

Learning Resources

Future Learning Goals

  • Strengthen data structures and algorithms.
  • Practice object-oriented programming.
  • Improve code readability, testing, and debugging.
  • Learn NumPy and pandas.
  • Build small data analysis projects.
  • Begin machine learning projects after developing the required foundations.

These are learning goals, not claims of completed work.

About
